This is a nice car, but is it really a Z? I thought they had the gas pedal mounted on the floor?

I agree w/ you. I thought they all had the gas pedal mounted on the floor even the LOS "L" Vin code California built cars.

i had a 70 Z 28 and the the air cleaner is different, Mine was an open air element like on the 69 Z 28's without the cowl induction hood. The gas pedal is correct. Also not sure about the power break resevoir, mine was different? Also looks like a lot of bondo? Also my centre caps had Z28 emblems on the rally wheels. Interior seat pattern is different than mine. Evrything else looks correct to me. Not sure if all of my parts were correct but that is how I bought it.

Hard to tell with the LA Cowl Tags but the Gas Pedal Should be mounted to the Floor as such:

And the Lower Front Control Arm Bumper does not look right. It should look like this:

The Brake Reservoir is definitely wrong.

But it's a beautiful looking car in excellent condition. I don't know why with such a detailed paint job that they would paint the Door Latch and Stud Post.

70's generally did not have the Bullet Mirrors but they are acceptable.

I would say the car is a clone but as I say I'm not that up on LA models.

I agree, the gas pedal should have been bolted to the floor, the wheels should be dull gray, the fan pulley should be a twin pulley fan drive and not a single groove one, and the door handles should have body colored inserts. It looks good from the outside, but for that kind of money, it should also look that good underneath. There shouldn't be that much paint peel and rust on the a-arms, subframe, and steering arms. From the papers, it looks like it's a real deal, just not done correctly. I say if you're going to redo something like that, then you should do it correctly. JMHO, though.

At the bottom of the eBay add:
On Jan-23-09 at 06:30:38 PST, seller added the following information:

PLEASE NOTE: DURING THE RESTORATION OF THIS 1970 1/2 RS Z28 THE INCORRECT GAS PEDAL WAS INSTALLED ON THIS CAMARO FOR

REALIBILTY AND MUCH EASIER USE (THE INSTALL OF THE FLOOR MOUNTED PEDAL WOULD BE VERY INEXSPENSIVE AND A EASY JOB). THE TWO HOLES FOR THE MOUNTING OF THE CORRECT PEDAL ARE THERE AND IT IS READY TO BE INSTALLED. THIS CAR WAS ALSO FEATURED IN THE SUPER CHEVY MAGIZINE.

Well curiosity got the better of me so I fired off a message to the seller questioning the discrepancies this is the reply:

Thank you for your input. Do some homework before you assume we are advertising our car incorrectly. This car did have the wrong gas pedal installed during the restoration, however the two mouting holes are in the floor and this can be easliy fixed, also just because this motor compartment is not 100% stock does not mean it is a "fake". This car has documentation since new including a build sheet that says Z/28 rs on it, invoices as well as verification with a super Chevy magizine ad, by Camaro Specialties and Charles Hanson of Horse Power TV. If there are any other "concerns" with this car please feel free to give me a call anytime.

Thank You,

There you go right from the horses mouth. Funny thing is I didn't say the car was advertised incorrectly other then that the specific items that define the 70Z are not on the car - LOL

You are right for that money the detailing should be much better but what the hang if they get their dollar then our 70Z's are holding value. Gotta say I had to repair my gas pedal because I've never found another like it and that was probably their problem too.

If Bob Harris from Camaro Specialties inspected and verified the car, that's as good as a Jerry McNiesh in my book. Chuck Hanson is a Chevelle expert, so also he knows Chevy's very well.
For the money they are asking (35K+), i would be talking to both those guys if I was interested in the car.
