ok i found a 69 that i am interested in... wondering what its worth in its present condition. no motor or trans.
.It has a totally redone front end rebuilt steering box and steering column, new body bushings. He says the paint job alone cost $6000. paint has a few scratches from moving the car to storage units after divorce, etc. car lived in Arizona for most of its life and there is no rust except a few spots in the trunk floor but no thru and thru spots. Hood is in perfect condition as you can see. The car is dusty now as you can see in the pictures, and I haven’t tried to wipe it off for fear of making swirls in the paint so it needs to be taken to the car wash. The fenders and front end parts were undercoated with a thick undercoating so there will be no rust worries in the future. Frame and front end suspension as well as all of the brackets, parts and bolts were all sand blasted and painted with frame paint from Eastwood. The firewall and door handles have been shaved and included are door poppers and electric door opener kits for keyless entry. Doors have original glass but windshield and back glass are missing. Seats are in good condition, but will need recovering at some time.

Hard to tell from the pics, but the body looks good. If you are looking for a candidate for prostreet, this might be a good starting point.

I would think a plain Jane, no driveline, painted shell would be worth $6K to 7K. Unfortunately, the fact that the guy spent $6k on paint does not add $6k to the value. If you put a killer drive line in it, killer interior, etc, the car will be worth maybe $25K to $30K. (unless of course your name is Chip Foose) Subtract the cost of getting there from here and you have the present value. The seller probably does not want to look at it that way; he wants to look at it from "cost up" but as a buyer, you should be looking at it from "finished value down."

I know the math does not work, but it's easy to get upside down in these cars. (actually, it's extremely hard not to get upside down) Consider that a car that is "90% complete" will usually require at least 90% more money and 90% more time to finish.

Sorry the pictures were so small that you couldn't tell what the car looked liked. I didnt realize that they were going to be that small so i fixed a few of them so you could get a better look.... I forgot the mention it has a X-66 trim tag with it but not sure if it is legit. so that is why i am saying it is a plain jane Camaro

X66 tag changes everything IF it's not a fake tag and IF it's the tag the car was born with. Does it have a 12 bolt rear ? Disc brakes ? Can you get good closeup pictures of the VIN tag & the trim tag ?

Yep, X66 if real, would add $6K or $7K to the value to someone doing a restoration, but if you are going to prostreet it, X66 adds little or no extra value.

i think he will laugh you out of the garage at 6 to 7 K. i've seen project cars sell at up to 12 k with no drive line or paint. a reference iwould be the dynocorn blank at near 14 k, again with no paint. its relatively cheap to power these cars with old technology (sbc or BBC) compared to what it cost to get a rust free high quality painted rolling chassis.

good luck.

unless he's desperate to sell or a total idiot, i doubt you'll escape withthe car for less than 10k.

Whether we like it on not, prices are down on everything from high dollar finished beauties to rust buckets, and everything in between.
What a guy wants for his car may affect whether or not he sells it, but does not affect it's value. It's only worth what someone will pay today, not what he would have paid yesterday.

A buddy of mine recently sold his nicely restored original driveline 69 Z for $45k. Two years ago it would have brought $60K-$65K, easy.

I agree with Joe Clance, if you could buy this car for less than 10K you would be stealing it. Let us know what you paying for it, if you buy it.
