I know this is probably a really newbie question, but I don't know the difference between the two. I wanted to get a manual trans with overdrive for my car, but due to lack of $$$ i'll probably have to get an overdrive automatic. What would be better to run in my 1969 camaro? I have to drive on the freeway a lot, so to run gears overdrive is gonna pretty much be a must.

The 700 has a wider gap between 1st & 2nd gears than the 200, which means rpms will drop off quite a bit when it shifts. The 700 also has a steeper 1st gear, helpful if you have a high first gear when pulling out, but not as good if you have like a 4.10. 200 cost a bit more to build but will handle more power, they came factory in the GN's. It is really a ? of what you intend to use it for and what you want to spend.

For information on the 200r4 go to Art Carr's website. And for info on the 700r4, go to www.700r4.com (http://www.700r4.com) it is Bowtie Overdrives website.

I do not work for either, just helping out. I have purchased from Bowtie, but not Art Carr(have a friend that did). Both are reputable companies.

Hope this helps!

The 2004R has a taller first gear and better gear drops between gears. It's a direct swap for your TH350 as far as length, yoke and driveshaft; all of that will be re-used. It does require a TH400 crossmember as the trans mount is further back than the TH350. The overdrive is a little more with the 2004R (.67 versus .7). Stock trannies, the 700R4 in the later years is probably a stronger unit, but in modified form the 2004R is equal and can actually be built to handle more power than the 700.

I'm moving this to the transmission section. I'd also recommend doing a search in the trans/rear-end section, this topic is brought up a lot and there's a lot of good info.
