have access to different engines that are torn up or otherwise not working. what do you all think about this hypothetical combo. using a good 350 andputting 283 heads on there. i think i got the combo right. feedback.....por favor....:D for street use

thatll be a good little torque motor... small intake runners with 58cc or 64 cc..done it before makes a killer lil street motor!!

thatd run alright I guess. find some 388 heads and build a 383 and I think youd be happier.

Hey Harley, Didn't know that with the 388 heads would =383. I got some feelers out for those heads. I have a 350 w/ 283 heads on my camaro now. told it is like 305???
I have a 305 on my gmc stepside and want to overhaul but of course upgrade. any suggestions?

what?

head size has nothing to do with the CI of the engine

CI is calculated by taking the bore of the engine times the stroke:

bore x bore x stroke x .7854 x 8 will give you the CI of a v8 engine

lets do a 302:

4 x 4 x 3 x .7854 x 8= 301.6 ci

edit* a 383 is a bored engine .030 over, with a 400 crank

4.030 x 4.030 x 3.75 x .7854 x 8= 382.66 ci

you can put 302 heads on it, 327 heads, or 350 heads and its not going to change a thing, other than the compression ratio

While it sounds neat on paper, I think you would be disappointed. I would guess that a set of over the counter Vortec heads would make at least 20% more horsepower than the very best stock 283 heads you could find.
