I have an 80 its been apart forever,im starting to reassemble. The orange wire that powers the heater fan has a small steel cylinder inline looks like a capacitor. Does it need to be there its in really rough shape. The heater fan in the car does work would like to keep it that way. Thanks for any help.

I believe it's nothing more than a resistor or capacitor or some such thing designed to eliminate noise in the radio. Most 1st generation Camaros don't have one.

What mitch said, a capacitor to reduce noise in the (AM) radio. You can leave it off.
