I know the whereabouts of an original Z-10 with a 3 speed so im pretty sure you could get an SS with a 3 speed.

Unreal Jan 29th, 09, 03:20 PM 3 speed muncie was the standard transmission with SS. 4 speed or automatic was an upgrade.
I had a 68 LeMans Sprint 2 door post when I was in college. Back then, I hated the fact that it was a post car, I hated the fact that it was a non-console car, and I hated the fact that it was a 3 speed (albeit hurst floor shifter)
Now, I think all those things are pretty special. If I had an SS with 3 speed, that's just how I would leave it!
SPARKY69 Jan 29th, 09, 03:50 PM Interesting...never knew that........
rich pern Jan 29th, 09, 03:58 PM Yep, the base tranny was a muncie 3 speed in the performance arena (SS and LM1), and a saginaw 3 speed in the non HiPo models. I *think* this was true for all models, just that the 4 speed upgrade was mandatory with some, and included in the package with others?
I am sure someone knows for sure which it was, or both.
I had a gold LM1 with the original unmolested 3 speed muncie still in it. Original hurst shifter still in it as well.

Rich Except for Z/28s. I'm fairly sure they were only available with a Muncie 4 speed and the only options were M20, 21 or 22

If they are original, then it is a SS 350 (Some, but not many X-11's were SS 350 cars).
ONLY HiPo 69 Camaro's got the muncie 3 speed, non HiPo Camaro's got the Saginaw 3 speed.
If a 69 has an original 3 speed muncie, it started life as a LM1 at least, and could have been an SS.
I *think* even Z28's started (on paper) as 3 speed muncies and the RPO Z28 mandated the upgrade to at least the M20 4 speed muncie (not sure, correct me if wrong).
I don't remember the discussion a while back about the difference between when a mandated upgrade was on top of a base, or a part of a package (Like the ZL1 / cowl hood discussion recently).

Don"t think so. Z28 was never anything less than a 4-speed, at least in the 67-69 years.
69 z11 Jan 30th, 09, 11:08 AM I think Rich is right. He's not saying any 3 speed Z's were built, but that the 4 speed in the Z was a mandatory upgrade. The upgrade would be from the 3 speed. Kurt has a scan of the original order form on CRG, and it shows the 3 speed as the standard with an *.
69 z11 Jan 30th, 09, 11:09 AM Does anybody have a scan of the original order form they would be willing to share? I'd really like to see the whole thing. PM me if you'd prefer.
Jonesy Jan 30th, 09, 11:46 AM Alot of 3 speed 69 SS's most likely got replaced with the more desirable 4 speed over the years. You just dont see orig 3 speed 69 SS cars anymore and there were probably alot made.

Yep, this is what I thought I remembered. :) You just said it better.
