68 Camaro, 383 small block with TH350 trans. 11.98's at 111mph and never trailered.

lil_beast_67 Nov 27th, 01, 10:02 PM damn you pat, you shoulda called me, I woulda ran mine too. Me and a friend finally got around to really tuning it and the thing runs like a completely different car. I also got the back rims on and everything else on the body (bumpers and stuff). Oh, and I'll give you... 14.3 @ 99 mph... because I'm optimistic. I'm probably gonna be outta town friday but I'll call you saturday and maybe we can go race somewhere, I want to see how my car compares to the one legged wonder.
travis Nov 27th, 01, 10:34 PM Its a tough call because of the worn motor, and the fact that I dont usually deal with stuff this light, but I'll say 15.2@89 mph

PDQUICK Nov 28th, 01, 09:26 AM Rondteal! LOL That's my favorite answer!! But everyone knows there's no way to kill a Chevy SB short of filling the crankcase with brake lathe filings!!!
I gotta revise my estimate though!!! I remember my partner running 14.1's in his '69 with a dog tired 350 w/.485 lift Crane, Q-Jet, 4spd and 3.08's. So, maybe you ran about 14.25 @ 88MPH???

Eric68 Nov 28th, 01, 01:47 PM Pat,
That's a great time. It just goes to show a car can go very fast with a mild cam!
The one major factor you did not mention was heads. What type of heads are you running?
Eric
lil_beast_67 Nov 28th, 01, 02:16 PM He's got port and polished camel hump heads. If you want to take a look at his (and mine, hehe) car go to his website at

c4boom Nov 28th, 01, 02:27 PM thats sick,,,,,,, i love it makes just about want to keep my 200,000 mile 350 in my truck http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif
67LT1Bird Nov 28th, 01, 04:06 PM Pat, nice looking car. Are you sure you still want to go with the 383?
Also, what do you think of the fiberglass trunk lid? I have thought about getting one for my firebird. After all, they are the same cost as a spoiler on its own.
Jon
Camaro6666 Nov 28th, 01, 09:50 PM Jon,
the rear decklid spoiler is from unlimited fiberglass. Out of 10 id give it a 6 because
#1 you have to kinda fabricate a way to get the old latch on.(you have to reuse the latch from your original piece)
#2 It doesnt fit flush in some spots
#3 when its new, on hot days you can REALLY smell the fiberglass. uugh!!
Hers the goods though
#1 It IS as cheap as just the spoiler part for your regular decklid.
#2 Its light as hell(8 lbs)
#3 Its one piece(no gap between lid and spoiler, It looks better to me)

RickB1B Nov 29th, 01, 04:57 PM Guy's this is interesting. I have basically the same car as you, but I have a 3.42 rear end. So, I dscided to run your car through the Dragstrip program. Guess what, it gave me a 13.8 ET time with the 2.73 rear end. Gives me a little more faith in these programs.
my69gofast Dec 1st, 01, 08:14 PM My guess would be around 13.8 @ 102
Oh, I'm sorry I see you already posted your time...never mind.
Seriously though, that's a great time. A mild cam (210@.050???) with ported heads really makes for a strong running mill.
3020 lbs weight probably helps out too.
travis Dec 2nd, 01, 08:15 PM Hey, my et guess was the closest for the 1st pass http://www.camaros.net/forum/rolleyes.gif http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif
Some of the best running engines I have ever had was high milers like yours...I guess all the loose tolerances really cuts down on the friction in the motor http://www.camaros.net/forum/wink.gif
