I purchased a 350 about a year ago from the Carolina Rod shop (they did not build the motor) with about 500 miles on it. When asked how much HP it was putting out, the answer was, about 300. I dont know much about the motor other than it has double hump heads. It doesn't lope like it has a big cam. My question is.....what is a good head/cam combo to put on this motor for increased HP. What is a reasonable Hp expectation with said package?
Thanks,
Brian

first off, we need to know what you're using the car for

Please don't forget that the great old L-48, 295/300hp/350 engines are fantastic DD's. Suckers are right at 10 to 1 CR'd!!

Pull the old -929 cam and install a VooDoo 268 or whatever cam that's from 268/270/272 and add a cheap set of 4-tube, long headers and go have more fun than John Law will allow!

It will be a weekend car, with little to no track time. However, I would like it to have plenty of umph. It does have a set of hooker headers also.

If you want GOOD advice then listen to pdq67. I did and I have a kicken 355 @ 400 hp with a 268 cam good heads and a LOT of machine work. The key is... what tranny and gears do you have behind it. More info...

I'm curious as to how the Voodoo 268 sounds at idle. I am lookng at getting this Cam with Edelbrock RPM heads. My motor is being balacned as we speak.
Feedback on the sound?

Brian,
First thing you should do is spend a few bucks and have your car put on a chassis dyno for a couple of runs. That way you will know what you have now as far as power goes. Without a baseline, it is impossible to make a good plan for improvements.

Just my opinion,

I don't have any sound clips, but I have the VooDoo 268 in my 355 with 64cc RPM heads and intake, 600 cfm carb, 1 5/8 headers. Motor is just slightly over 10:1 compression. I'm running a M-21 and 4:10 rear. The cam sounds excellent and performs even better. Nice agressive lope and has great street manners. I'm experimenting with a 4-hole carb spacer to see if it builds a bit more low-end grunt.
Overall, a great cam choice for a street motor with at least 9.5:1 compression, good flowing heads with a 200cc & lower intake runner, high-rise dual plane intake and steep rear gears. Roller cams are much better, but I was on a budget.

You want 64 or 65 cc heads to keep your compression ratio up. This should still be pump gas friendly.
