i would like to port match my heads on my 396. is this easy enough to do myself, or should i send them out, in which i don't have a lot of bucks to do this. i feel comfortable using a dremel tool, i was told it just takes a lot of time and patience.
any thoughts???

sent them out & have a pro do a good job on them around the valves opening them for better flow.

Port matching is easy enough. Just dye the intake port opening (a large marker will do), place the gasket you intend to use on the head (line up the bolt holes in the gasket with the bolt bosses on the head) and scribe the outline of the gasket opening. Now port away. The trick is to take the material away in sheets. Do not take lumpy, bumpy cuts into the port. By the time you make it smooth you will more than likely pass your scribe line. Feather/decrease the port match into the port about two inches. As for bowl work that is a bit more tricky and requires practice. Take your time and you'll be fine.

if thats all your doing is a gasket match,go for it,very easy but can get away from you ,and while your at it smooth out the intake/exhaust ports,but watch the valve and stem.
