Well ive had all i can take with my Mallory setup. In the past 2 yeas ive had 2 distributer LED's go bad, and a Hyfire IV box go bad. Now my tach is getting oddball signals at idle....Its time to make a switch this winter. SOOOOO i was wondering if i should go the MSD digital 6 route or step up to a digital 7. Im never going to get serious on bracket racing. Its more of a street monster, that will see a good share of track time. My question is....is the Digital 7 worth the extra money or am i better off with just a digital 6??? Who runs a digital 7 on here? I know the Digital 6 is a great ignition first hand and im leaning twards that but if the Digital 7 is a BIG advantage then i guess why not spend the money....what do you guys think? Also how hard are the D7's to get tuned?

Before you drop your hard earned dough make sure your voltage regulator is working properly. Mallory products are prone to give up when the voltage spikes. That might explain your hard luck.

when i was installing my unilite modual in my camaro i noticed that the instructions said that the unit would not be warrantied if you didn't have their voltage supression box. it is basially a box that goes between the wiring harness on your car and the distributer. it protects aginst voltge spikes.

for a street/strip car a digital 6 is plenty good (damn good in fact). the digital 7 is more ignition than needed on the street, and is really not recomended for anything but racing. in fact, the digital 6 is what the nova i help out on runs, and thats running a nitroused 632, that has run 7's. i've also seen them work real well on street cars.
i'm running a 6al, which is plenty for what you are doing, but the digital box has a couple of retard features that are nice, especially if nitrous is in the future.

I'll second that. The 6 is all you really need.

What's wrong with the 6AL? Just wondering what advantage a digital box offers if any.

FWIW when I swapped out my good old HEI for a new MSD distributor and 6AL, the car ran the same ETs. No improvement in performance whatsoever; however, it DID idle better and the rev limiter is nice for when the tires break loose.

well after looking through Summit to look through prices i was shocked to see the D7 was more than 200 bucks over what i thought it was, never mind, i shouldnt have even asked the question.....so i guess im going to go with the Digital 6 Thanks guys. Eric the 6AL to digital 6 conversion that i witnessed resulted in better throttle response, more stable idle, i believe better fuel economy, and it has features like 2 rev limiters in 100 rpm incriments built it, and top end retard. I believe its just flat out a better box. Im sure theres nothing wrong with a 6AL but i want the "extra" features
