I am in the market for a air saw. I looked online to see what I can get cheap because I am on a budget. Harbor Freight has them for 19.99 online, 15.99 in store. Northern's brand is the cheapest and its 59.99. After looking at both, they looked exactly the same. Then I read the difference on the web. Northern says it runs off 4 cfm and cycles 10000 a minute where HF is 6 cfm and 9000 a minute. My compressor isnt the greatest so I figured I would get the NT one.

I got there and found the one the is listed online, and to my surprise, they had it listed wrong online. It said on the box 6cfm and 9000.

WOW. A $45 mark up? Is there any reason to buy the NT over the HF tools?

If you are talking resiprocating I bought the one from HP and it was not good.I bought the Blue point on ebay and it works good....

I got mine from HF.... still going strong. Not an everyday use item and oiled before each use.
I look at HF tools this way.... for the price, if it lasts long enough to get the job done ... it paid for its self... if it lasts longer... all the better.

Deciding factor for me between the 2 choices..... local availability then price.

With new tools you usually get what you pay for...

I have the HF recip body saw. It was $20. It did the job I needed it for, then it basically fell apart. Pure junk, but inexpensive junk.

both are good places for tools....buyer beware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The blades cost more than the tool. I used mine a couple times and it pretty much stinks. It did get me though some tight spots so I guess it was worth the $20.

Harbor Freight all the way. The stuff at Northern Tool is over priced.

Mine will probably fall apart tomorrow for sayin this, but my HF recip saw has worked for the past several years. I don't use it but about once a month (maybe less). It is heavy and a pain to change the blade, but it was $20.

Thanks for all the replies. I took the NT saw back. Then called HF to see if they had the saw and butt weld clamps. They said the did, I drove 45+ minutes to get them and find out their computer says they have 3 but their shelf says none. Kinda fustrating. Did score a die grinder set for $11 though.:)

Do campbell hausfeld air tools last? I might take a trip to Sears and pay the extra $5 over the NT brand named one.
