A friend of mine gave me a Cam out of a 1969 Z28 302 motor that he bought. He gave it to me because he wasnt sure what it was(duration, lift etc). He says it might be new or has very few miles if any.

Is there anyway of identifying a Cam ? I only see a few numbers and letters between the lobes. Also like to find out if its a solid lifter or hydrolic cam etc.
There is really no info on either end of the cam.

Thanks in advance.
Sorry its late and I am tired.

I know it has CWC which is the foundry who makes the cores for most of the cam companys. I will get the remainder of the letters/numbers soon........

If it is stock, it should be the old 30-30, the -346 solid lifter cam.

there is one small paint mark that looks beige that is about a 1/4 inch in size(between the next to last rear cam bearing and 4th lobe)and then there are two larger paint marks, one is blue the other orange toward the back of the cam, between the last two lobes.

Do it this way.

Solid lifter cam, right!!

Measure both lobes so you can post back both their lifts and we maybe can tell you what it is??

Measure lift long-ways, then base circle cross-ways and subtract.

Multiply both by 1.5 and subtract .030" on both and if the numbers turn out right at .455", it's a 30-30 cam..

To each his own, but I'd do like I posted and find out what it is and regardless, if it ran good, I'd use it anyway.

And fwiw, the old 30-30 cam in a Z-28 does quite well even to this day, imho!
