So where should I start with troublle shooting? I was driving my 69 vert tonight and all of a sudden - total ignition failure, (happened 3 x over the evening). All other electrical, (lights, radio, etc), works. Car just shuts off. It will not restart immediately...but 5 mins later, fires right back up. where would you recommend I start to look for the problem. Any ideas on the cause?

Does it crank, but not start? if so I suspect an ignition problem. I had this happen once from simply a loose coil connection. check all the wires . If it is a HEI it might be a bad wire in the pick-up coil.
Or..when it dies you can also check for fuel in the float bowl by hitting the accelerator pump and looking for the squirt of fuel. maybe a plugged fuel filter.
Well at least these are some simple places to start.

When it dies, it wont turn over....as if the battery was removed. Were should I start looking. At the HEI, Coil, grounds? THoughts?

Start with battery connections. make sure they are in good condition and clean, then check the cable ends at the block and starter. check the junction block on the radiator core support behind the battery for good ends and connections.
