View Full Version : Track results
prostreet L-78 Aug 22nd, 04, 12:35 PM Went to the track yesterday to see how the camaro would run in street trim, only change was running on Quick Time Pro`s instead of treaded Quick Time`s. The setup was exactly the same as I had it on 1500 miles of the Power Tour this spring and 5400 miles total in the past year since I finished the car. This is on 89 octane pump gas. All motor. I drove it to and from the track, 80 miles roundtrip.
60`: 1.581
1/8: 6.95 @ 100
1/4: 10.87 @ 125
Car details are: 3840 lbs. with me in car. 496 BBC 8.9:1 compression. Ray Franks 320 cc Profiler heads. Comp Cams 308 Magnum solid roller cam. 1050 HP Dominator. 2" Hooker super comp`s. Full length 3-1/2" Spintech oval exhaust with X pipe. Proshifted Doug Nash street 5 speed. 3.89 geared 9" rearend. 31 * 18.5 Quick time pro`s.
I should be able to improve the 60` times considerably with 4 link adjustments and adjustable shocks. I haven`t done any engine tuning yet either. Brent
40Coupe Aug 22nd, 04, 02:11 PM How do you get a standard transmission equipped Camaro to weigh 3840 lb???
No way unless you were hiding your 350 lb brother in the trunk. :D
prostreet L-78 Aug 22nd, 04, 02:34 PM Yeah, suprised me too. That was on a truck scale with a full tank, I`m going to have it scaled with individual wheel scales to setup the chassis in a couple weeks. Let`s see, I`m 330 lbs. 9" nodular carrier with 35 spline locker, heavy GM disk brakes with fullsize single piston calipers on rear, full cage with x brace, etc. All glass windows, all steel except for hood which weighs as much as a steel hood after smoothing the underside with a flat sheet of 3/16" fiberglass. Full interior with two layers of sound deadener to make it bearable to drive for hours. Corbeau seats which are very heavy. Stereo equipment, two amps, subwoofer and box, four speakers, etc. I guess it all adds up. I think i`ll take it to another scale because that number seemed high to me also.

prostreet L-78 Aug 22nd, 04, 05:11 PM I stopped at a different truck stop with a guaranteed weight scale tonight. Weighed 3800 lbs with 1/2 tank of fuel and me.
67RS502 Aug 23rd, 04, 03:57 AM Anything that you can drive like that to the track and run 10s is
pretty good. Put it on a diet! Also if you bump the compression up
2 points to 10.9:1 would really help - youre leaving alot of power
on the table with that low a comp. and that big a cam.
With a diet and more comp. high 9s would be do-able, with lots of tuning & tweakin graemlins/thumbsup.gif
AllGoNoShow Aug 23rd, 04, 05:01 AM Got to love a fast manual car! How is the Pro-Shifting mod on the street?
prostreet L-78 Aug 23rd, 04, 05:12 AM I`m the one on the diet! I guess that the car is a highly detailed street car that was built to be enjoyable to drive anywhere. If I started to strip weight out of it, it would be far from what I want it to be. As far as compression ratio, I know that more power could be made, but pump gas quality sucks! I have a buddy with a 10.5:1 572 and he is forced to run race fuel because the 92 octane that is available here will put him into detonation when he gets a bad tank of gas. I will never have to worry about that. My plan is to get the chassis dialed in to hopefully pull some mid to low 1.4 60` times, spend some time tuning the engine to get it to run a little quicker on motor. Then put a G force transmission in over the winter so I can spray some nitrous at it and run 9`s.
prostreet L-78 Aug 23rd, 04, 05:26 AM All Go No Show, I only pro-shifted 3rd and 4th gears, 2nd and 5th still have syncro`s. I run 1-4 gears at the strip and 5th is road gear. The 1-2 shift was always pretty good. I can then shift into 2nd easily when turning corners, etc. I can downshift into 3rd and 4th if I gently ease it in, but try to avoid it as it will grind or bang occasionally. As far as power-shifting, it is awesome. I can shift just as it hits the rev limiter without clutching, I won`t ever go to an auto in this car, it`s just too much fun! I`m going to try to find a used G force trans this winter though as I`ve already broken some parts in my Nash.
Eric68 Aug 23rd, 04, 05:33 AM Cool graemlins/thumbsup.gif That is probably the heaviest Camaro out there LOL
You should be able to go a lot faster with a little tuning and some traction . . . LOL :D
prostreet L-78 Aug 24th, 04, 07:01 AM Thanks Eric, Yeah, I should have been more weight conscious, but at least I put as much of the weight as I could in the rear. It has 53% of the weight on the front end. I should be able to make it hook with that weight distribution. I`m not sure if 3500 lbs is unheard of in a Big Block car with cage, etc. What`s your car weigh, looks like it is pretty much a fully optioned street car also.
Eric68 Aug 24th, 04, 08:13 AM Yeah, mine's no lightweight either. Actually its on the heavy side for an SBC car with aluminum heads, alum w/p, alum intake and headers. LOL
It goes for 3580# with me in the drivers seat and my tool kit in the trunk (near full gas tank). I go for 230# so I could probably cut back the Big Macs and go a little faster too . . .
I think the cage plus full interior hurts in the weight department . . . usually you loose some weight removing the interior when installing a cage . . . not me, I still have all my orig seats and carpeting :D
prostreet L-78 Aug 24th, 04, 09:41 AM Cool! Low 11`s at that weight with a 383 is awesome! I`m sure there`s plenty of track tuning invested to run those numbers. Well Done! :D
