View Full Version : Lt1 Rear discs on 68 - do axles need turned down?

I was trying to install my rear LT1 discs on what was formerly a drum car. I pulled the axles and put in the backing plates. The discs I had were probably the wrong discs (as the rotors are too wide for the calipers from rockauto). The axles were too big to fit into the recessed area of the rotors.
So I thought maybe I had mixed up the rotors with the LS1 ones I had purchased from the front. No dice.
This begs the question - do I need to have the axles turned down on an Lt1 rear disc swap the same way the front hubs need to be turned down on the LS1 swap?

Are the rotors 93-97 Z/28? You might try a different brand rotor. I bought mine from a Car Quest auto parts store and the axles fit w/o turning, but I have heard of others having to turn their axles.

Allegedly, the rotors are for a 96 z/28. This is obviously not the case as the rotors are clearly more thick. I guess I'll just have to wait until the correct rotors arrive.

Yup, it looks like the company sent me LS1 fronts and LS1 rears. That sucks. Oh well, will call them tomorrow.
