I have a 68 Z which have discs on the front. There was a guy that looked at it and said I need the following:

New Calipers - Original cannot be rebuilt
Rotors may not be able to be turned. (he did not know for sure).

Question :

1. I know they make caliper repair kits, and would like to repair these if possible (since they original)? anyone know of a place in North Carolina that can do this?

2. Can I do anything with the rotors?

i worked in the parts business years and years ago and we were able to send out the calipers and have them sleeved with stainless steel sleeves. this was a fairly new thing back in the late '70's early '80's... now it should be common place i'd think.

i'd stop in to your local reputable part store and inquire if their rebuilder can perform this service for you... they'd tag your units and return them to you.

check out http://www.vettebrakes.com, they're in Florida I think, been around for a long lont time. They did all 4 on my 69 vette back in the 80's.

I have a 68 Z28 with the front disc as well. I sent the calipers to Vette Brakes in Florida and they installed stainless sleeves as part of the rebuild. The only problem I ever had was letting the car sit for many months without moving it. Then when I did use the brakes I slowly tore small pieces of the caliper piston seal loose and one leaked. Vette Brakes fixed it and explained what I had done. Now when I'm not driving it I push the brake pedal now and then to keep the seal lips from sticking.
If you have to have the rotors turned find a shop that cares. Mine took a minimal cut and while they had to make more than one cut they only took what was needed to true the rotor. Most shops just make one big cut to speed up the job. You may be losing the chance to have another turn way down the road.
