Hey, guys I was wondering if anyone can help me with a motion style air cleaner that I'd like to install on my Camaro. I've got all the parts except for the mounting bracket, but I've seen a picture of one so I think that I can make it easy enough. I was just wondering if there is suppose to be any element type of material between the two screens? The one that I have has the two domed screens and a retainer ring that holds them in place. This retainer is flat unlike some that I have seen that are round rod material with some raised spots to keep the tension I believe. That brings me to the other part of my question. With mine having the flat style retainer do I need to find a way to shim it so to speak if there is no element type of material that goes between them to take up that space? Right now if you shack it the screen bang around an make a bunch of noise and I figure there has to be some way to make that stop. I'm guessing anyway. I'd apprecaite any help that anyone can provide. Thanks Team Camaro. Jesse

Those air cleaners were discontinued because of the problems due to the element catching on fire. When your carb would backfire it would burn the element and if you had a fiberglass hood it had a possibilty of catching the hood on fire.I would recomend either cutting a small vacuum hose to go around the perimeter between the screens or using a black hard caulking around the perimeter. If you choose the element was sold by Home Depot or Lowes in their heating and air filter department. The bracket is easy take a piece of flat stock and bend into an elongated u shape.

Thanks so much for the help. I do appreciate it. I will see what I can do with your recommendations between the two screens. Those sounds like good ideas. As for the element that I can find at Home Depot or Lowes is it all ready cut in a circular shape or do I need to trim it to the correct size? I'll have to go and take a look for it in the next few days. Thanks again for all of your help. Jesse

Thanks again for the heads up on this element. One last question I forgot to ask is it a foam material or is it more of a paper? I just want to make sure that I know what I'm looking for. I'm guessing that it has some thickness to it so that it fills the gap between the two screens. Is that correct? Thanks again. I really appreciate your help.

It's a foam, thats why they cought on fire at the first backfire.

My buddy Mike from CT sells complete Motion "fly eye" air cleaners if you need one. He only has a few that came from an old speed shop and they aren't cheap but they are the real deal.

Thanks for the heads up Mark. I appreciate the information on the NOS air cleaners, but I don't have the cash for them. I'm just going to have to make my used on work. I guess if it was going on a real Motion car I'd probably go for it but I just like the look and the air cleaner I currently have on the car doesn't look that great. I just want to give the engine bay a new look. Thanks again guys.
