I think (I hope) I know the answer to this but want verification. I am changing the bushings on my leaf springs to the Energy Suspension polyurethane bushings from Summitt. The original front spring is rubber with a metal outer sleeve. The new bushing is poly and no metal outer sleeve was provided. I assume that I don't have to use the metal outer sleeve from the rubber one.
I have the poly bushings on and want to make sure before I install it. It seems a little wider than before, anyone have problem fitting them in the pocket and up to the frame. Also, there seems to be extra bushings (same size as shackle bushings) in the package, assume they are spares as I have no idea what to do with them.

Dont use the old sleeves. The extra bushings are for the rear of the frame rails where the shackles bolt to. Those can be a pain to swap out but most likely need to be.

hmmm, don't remember seeing those bushings on the rear frame rail but it's hard to see and wasn't looking for that specifically. I'll check it out, but I have no idea how to get up there and do that. Thanks.

You had to have your hands all over them when you un-bolted the shackles to drop the springs. The upper shackle bolt goes through them and they are not always easy to get out or put back in. Once you remove the old bushings, sand or scotchbrite the area where the bushings go and clean it out well. Then lube it well and lube the bushings and be ready to improvise a press from the shackles and bolts to press the new bushings into place.

Don't leave the old bushings as it will defeate all the rest of the work you've done...

oh yeah, that makes sense. I had new frame rails installed with new bushings so if it turns into a nightmare I may just leave those in as they are new but rubber not poly, that shouldn't make a huge difference should it?
