hello everyone im new here so please bear with me.i used to own a 79 camaro back when i was 18, now im 36 and for my midlife crisis i went out and bought a 78. its pretty rough but i was on a budget, i just remember the feeling i used to get outta my 79. anyway i have a question. how do i remove the gauge cluster? ive gotten the clear cover off but the speedo cable is still holding and i dont know what to do next.

David, The speedometer cable is held with a spring clip. Feel around where the cable attaches to the inst. panel and push in on the spring tab and the cable should release. The wiring harness has clips on each end. Push in on these to remove the harness. If you have the shift indicator in the dash then you must remove the phillips screw on the steering column collar. It looks like it has a piece of string that moves the indicator up and down. Good luck. Also there are 4 screws in the green backing that should be removed before doing any of the above.

If that Dash Cluster is anything like my 70 you had better drop the steering column 1st or you will end up scratching the H*LL out of the column and breaking plastic tabs on the cluster.

got it out. i needed to replace all the little gauge lights. thanks guys
