I have a 68 Z and I want to clean the brake booster up while on the car.

What can I use to clean it up to make a nice appearance?

any ideas, suggestions.

TRWell, I cleaned mine with simple green and painted it with a brush.....not perfect but will do until I decide to tear it out and do it right. The comments I've had on it were good too.

Rustoleum gloss black #7779..(I'm not going for originality under the hood) ...just don't like the "gold" I've seen on most of them. My plans for next year are to take it out and spray it to match the exterior (Bolero Red) along with replacing the master cylinder.

The booster is not hard to remove, and does not require removing any brake lines or having to re-bleed the system. I would just take it out and paint it. The cad spray bombs from Eastwood do an OK job if you prep the surface well, but gloss balck looks better if you are not worried about originality.

The Eastwood part is #10331Z for 39.99
for the Golden Cad system (all spray cans) or
Part #10349Z has the gold system plus clear for 49.99

TRNot sure what you mean by "which".....one kit just adds their special clear...as Dave said...it does an OK job....one tip I've heard is that you should go sparingly on the red and green highlights...most people overdo it.The biggest part of painting is in the preparation of the part...paint doesn't hide defects and make sure it is clean. But,if you want perfect, just get a new one.

Or you can have it replated by Steve Gregori @ www.brakeboosters.com I sent him mine, i'll post pics when I get it back. Cost is about $195.00, but replating is not the only thing he does to it. He rebuilds it as well. And he is a retired Veteran, so please help an old Vet.

I bought the Eastwood kt and liked it for a while but it loses it's luster.

Yep...Steve did mine and it looks great. It was the original booster he rebuilt and replated. Is yours original GM?
