View Full Version : Unique Gauge Pod - Thoughts

I know not everyone will like this, but thought I would throw it out there for discussion.

My 68 is getting some interesting customisations, most pretty standard (shaved rails, side markets, firewall, door handles, smoothed all over, mini-tubbed, AME front clip, billet everywhere etc etc).

However the interior is also getting a make over with:
Full custom console running from custom full metal dash right throuh to rear parcel shelf. Full metal hood liner made out of a new hood skin (that gets welded in next week).

And a new dashpod. I wanted something different, something that you don't see everyday. The car will be smooth inside. You will not see ANY switches (they are all hidden, everythig inc window switches, ignition, lights, air-con the lot). Even the trans shifter is hidden (using a push button Retrotek model like in Alimitub).

So all that is visible is the steering wheel and dashpod (plus 4 cream leather seats and lots of candy yellow painted metal).

Here is the Dash pod, now welded in.
2 Dakota Digital guages, I love the set back and the offset, gives it real depth.

Thoughts ? I suspect it will be a love em or hate em....

Defenitly different, remides me of the batmobile for some reason. Thunderbird also comes to mind. I like it, I want to see it done.

Did you fab that yourself? Pretty unique. It looks good, is it easy to see?

looks like the old Shelby gauge pod in the center of the dash!

When I first saw the gauges, the image of "Wall-E" popped into my head. I would like to see the interior when it's finished. It's too hard to judge the pod without seeing how it ties into everything else. I think it could look really slick, though.

I'm sure it will be very nice. I'm more of a purist, but I like your style and craftsmanship.

"W-a-l-l-l-l-l-l-e-e-e-e" ...
That's funny l:)
That's where my mind went at first also, maybe that's cuz I just watched it last weekend for the first time :D

I think the look is unique and will probably fit in well with your other mods
I like Dacota's offerings. They work well and are usually easy to see in most conditions. Been thinking of running some in a truck I have.
Are you really short or are the seats set sorta low? Otherwise I might suggest you angle them up a bit more so you can see them over rather than through the sterring wheel - or you're gonna spend a lot of time duckin' down to look at them...

If it holds up as well as W-a-a-a-l-l-l-l-l-e-e-e patend it. That little guy made it though hell.
