What's everbodys thoughts on using glue on the quarters?
I just saw a vidieo by 3M and they say you still have to weld the seam around the trunk and rear panel but it's ok to use over the wheel and the door jamb area?I used a 3M product a few years back to assemble a home built Airplane and once 2 metal parts were joined together a hammer and chisle was the only thing that was going to seperate them.

expensive though a quart of glue and a quart of activator was $180 and a Gallon of certifide MEK to clean the Parts was $20 so it was a $200 deal.Has the body industry come that far.or is it just as good to plug weld and forget the glue?
Thanks David 68 Vert

The manufactures are bonding more and more every year on the new cars. There are huge benefits regarding corrosion protection and they crash test with the same or better results then welding. The nice thing about metal bonding on restorations is that it is very sanitary, no welds to dress and hide. Since the pinch welds are not compromised in appearance by bonding process it is very easy to use a pencil eraser in fresh primer or sealer to duplicate what othe original welds look like.

Sure like the idea of lick and stick assembly but then I wouldn't get all the quality time of burning plug welds and grinding....and grinding, and grinding....can you tell that I am tired of grinding welds yet? Anything I have read on the subject says its the best thing since sliced bread. I still like old school method myself.....I just don't like change....Jeff

Yabutt, I don't think sliced bread holds as good as glue. :noway: :secret: :noway:

I had some panels on my Camaro that looked like swiss cheese, but I don't remember seeing any sliced bread......:noway:

i glued and welded mine on. I am pleased so far, like that fact that it seals the wheelhouses to the quarters.

I use the SEM brand of panel adhesive, Its makes quick work of quarter panels and patch panels.
