I have a '66 Chevelle 12 bolt in my Nova with an Eaton posi and GM 4.88s. Do you guys use 90 wt. or 85-140 wt. lube in yours, or is there not much difference? What brands, and what about "posi" additives? I've heard both good and bad about them. When I had the rear apart the wear pattern on the ring and pinion looked light and even. This car is not my daily driver, it's primarily a weekend toy.
Thanks- Pete

I've used brand-name 80-90W with a bottle of GM Posi additive for years with no problems. Others prefer Red Line synthetics, and many others. Probably depends on how hard you beat on it. 4.88's are STOUT for the street (unless you do it 1320 feet at a time!).

I would go with a posi lube like 80W-90-Ive always used this also.

JohnZ I agree with you- 4.88s are a bit much, but thats what was in the rear when I got it and right now the budget dictates they stay in for awhile. I'm going to a 28" tall tire in the hopes of killing off a little gear. The car does get romped on pretty good when I take it out.

Amsoil synthetic 75W90 for a standard diff. or 75W90 series 2000 for a posi. You don't need any additive with the series 2000. There is no better oil at any price! www.amsoil.com (http://www.amsoil.com)

Damn Pete, those are towing gears. Those 28's are gonna seem like import spares!
Anyway, we headed to Moroso Wednesday night. Gonna open of the exhaust and see what my baby can do. Aiming for a 10.60 pass, but we will see. You going there any time soon?

80/90, with the egg salad additive in it. I've also used the red line synthetic.
