: brake spindles
sheboygan34 Feb 11th, 09, 05:49 PM I need to find brake spindles (either disk or drum) for my 69 camaro w/ a wilwood kit. All the used spindles I find have a lot of outer bearing wear. Maybe buying new spindles are the answer. Should I avoid the chineese made spindles? Are there any made in the "USA" for a reasonable cost? Thanks again.....!!!!!!!!!!!
davidpozzi Feb 12th, 09, 12:18 AM I have heard the Master Power Brake spindles are pretty good, don't know if they are US made.
1stGenLvr Feb 12th, 09, 08:01 AM It's the same MBM spindle that every one else purchases. Nothing wrong with them that I have seen. I've used a ton with out problems.
davidpozzi Feb 12th, 09, 12:45 PM MBM stuff is sold on Ebay under the name "pirate jack" if I remember correctly.
1stGenLvr Feb 12th, 09, 12:56 PM Most every vendor buys MBM Chinese spindles that I know of.
Interesting that Master Power is selling the "High Tech" Chinese tubular A arms that seem to be so popular on here.

I guess there's one lesson to be learned here, you can buy those arms on Ebay for about $300 or pay Master Power $1000! Nice profit margin if you ask me.
pdq67 Feb 12th, 09, 02:13 PM Please do your homework here b/c they are out there and are pretty-much like stock, but new and for not all that expensive a price so please keep ebaying.

sheboygan34 Feb 12th, 09, 02:37 PM Thanks for the info. My car is not 100% orginal, so if the spindles look a little different than stock it's ok. I just need to find something so I can put my car back together. It's still cold in Wisconsin, but summer is around the corner (I hope)..... A
pdq67 Feb 13th, 09, 02:14 PM Yah, right!! Right around the corner!
Like around here! Dam, it's breaking temp heat records one day and calling for snow 3 days later..

camaroman7d Feb 13th, 09, 04:56 PM You might want to try Heidts, I know they have their spindles made and I think they are made in the USA. I have a set I bought for my 70 Nova. I bought dropped spindles but, they offer standard ones as well.
pdq67 Feb 13th, 09, 06:34 PM I wish Heidt's would make their taller forged spindles in a stock spud location and not just dropped!!

1stGenLvr Feb 13th, 09, 07:43 PM Made in China, pay less elsewhere.
ProdigyCustoms Feb 13th, 09, 07:50 PM We have Ride Tech tall spindles. They are 2" drop spindles.
pdq67 Feb 13th, 09, 08:44 PM Frank,
What's the deal w/ making them taller, but not dropped like we need to use to raise our poor front roll center height??
Nobody sells them so why??

sheboygan34 Feb 13th, 09, 10:20 PM I found these for sale on the web. I've never heard of the brand "helix", but I assume their made in china. My main issue with chineese spindles is the quality of metal that they are made with. I'm no expert, just a guy that wants to drive a safe camaro !!!
"Helix uses the latest in CAD/CAM technology to design the 1964-1972 GM A Body Stock Spindle, ensuring a long life and smooth operation. Helix spindles are one piece drop-forged 4140 steel. Be aware of unsafe, cheap castings that are prone to snapping off, creating a deadly situation in a moving vehicle.New replacement stock height spindles fit 1964-72 GM A-body cars like Chevelle, LeMans, Cutlass and Skylark".
RickD Feb 16th, 09, 02:22 PM I just looked in my Rick's catalog and they state their replacement spindles are Made in USA(?)
RickD Mar 3rd, 09, 09:19 AM I had sent Rick's an email about their disc spindles. They responded that they are forged and machined in the US.

That's funny.
Maybe he shouldn't use MBM pictures then.:noway:
RickD Mar 3rd, 09, 12:18 PM I know. I asked because their catalog says US made and the site doesn't.
