I need to install subframe connectors on my 67'. I don't mind welding them in but I don't want to cut the floor board. I may have to use the bolt in type. But, who makes the best connectors.

They worked fine for over 10 yrs and were easy to install. The car went 9.66 @ 145MPH with them.I know they sell them in jegs. 1978 z-28 350 4-speed 39,500 orig miles kereed57 May 8th, 01, 12:16 PM I appreciate that Mike. boodlefoof May 8th, 01, 06:20 PM I run the bolt ins and had no problems at all putting them in and they help weight transfer and chassis rigidity a lot. Bob Cam May 9th, 01, 08:25 AM IMHO I prefer the weld in. There is no chanse of bolt hole elongation and the nessary clearence of bolt to hole is eliminated. I bought everybodys weld in conectors and sent them all back. I bult my own out of 2 x 3 box tube. They fit perfect and the only modification that needs to be done is to the brake line. Most the weld in manafactures say no modifications required, then the first thing in the instructions is cut this or that then weld it to ...... If you can do some minor fabrication yourself let me know and I'll send you a set of plans. ------------------ Bob 69 302 Z Payton King May 9th, 01, 11:53 AM I would go with the weld in type. Check out www.detroitspeed.com (http://www.detroitspeed.com) Kyle Tucker(Twister fame) Is about to release a set that follows the contour of the floor so they tuck up nice and close. The only drawback is they come into the rear floorboards a little. If you will go to his site and look at the project cars he has posted, you will see a set installed. You can also see how to mini tub a first gen. Everett#2390 May 10th, 01, 02:16 AM Competition Engineering sells a weld in connectors that are floor-contoured. I have them in my car and they work great. Just be sure the car is straight, suggest to spend the bucks and have a frame shop make sure. Once the connectors are on, it's hard to straighten. Along with s/connectors, go with solid sibframe bushings. Leave the soft ones up front on the radiator support to prevent radiator from destroying itself from vibration. Only minor mods were required and they can either be bolted in or welded. Quality is excellent. kereed57 May 10th, 01, 11:30 AM On those Jegs connectors. Did they follow the floor contour very well? <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Ray McCarthy: Jegs also has a set of connectors that I am using in my 69'. They usually fit a little better than weld in versions and you get virtually the same thing after you weld them. 69CamaroRacer May 11th, 01, 07:54 AM i use the comp engerining bolt in's and they work great .. they were easy to install and do a good job of stifining up the frame. ------------------ 69 Camaro RS, 355ci mild cam, Preformer rpm intake, edelbrock 600 carb, 350 turbo w/ shift kit 2500 stall, 10 bolt 2.73 any more questions ask kereed57 May 12th, 01, 03:47 AM Thanks for eveyone's help ------------------ 67 Camaro, 355, th350, 4.10 posi Ricks427 May 13th, 01, 04:32 AM anyone tried the Alston weld-in with the Round tubing, they look like their contored to the floor. ------------------ 67 427 Camaro jvolk81 May 13th, 01, 05:57 AM I use the comp eng. bolt in connectors for ease of installation and then had them welded in. work great! Ray McCarthy May 14th, 01, 03:29 AM kereed57 - I had to dimple the floor pan slightly to get the Jegs connectors to fit (No chopping required). I bolted them in first then I had a friend follow up with the welding. 68rs-conv May 14th, 01, 04:54 AM i use compet. eng. on my convertable. they are both bolted and welded. i have had no no with them at all. i even forgot they were there! |
