Ok im putting the tranny from an 84 Camaro into my 82 Trans Am. The tranny is a 5 speed. The Camaro has some type of hydraulic pressure clutch linkage thing, and my trans am has a mechanical type one.

What i am wondering first is, Can i swap the hydraulic linkage over to my trans am with it being fairly easy? As in pull the parts and put them in, or will there be modification to parts/car or anything?

If i can do this, how exactly do i go about doing it? I have looked at both cars, and i am unsure how i get the damn linkages off either car, it doesnt help i have very limited space, and the camaro is outside in the cold and snow. So knowing exactly what im looking at taking off would help tons.

Hopefully someone knows about this, as i would think i need to do this before dropping my engine into the car.

I had a 83 Z28 with the mechanical linkage and if I remember correctly, there is a bracket with the pivot ball attached to it mounted to the frame underneath the brake booster. Remove this bracket (two or three bolts) and then you can slide the z-bar off the pivot ball on the motor. You could possibly use the mechanical linkage, but I believe you must use a bellhousing from an 83 model due to the tilted rotation of the t5. All camaros 84 and up used the hydraulic linkage. Hope you have small hands, its a tight squeeze!

Well there was no motor in the trans am when i got it, we bought the 84 camaro for a parts car, mostly the tranny to put in my trans am. So there is no motor in either car right now, will that make it easier to do it? And is it possible to do while the engine is in the car or not?

I believe you can install the hydraulic linkage in the TA without the motor and should definately be easier without the motor in the way. May want to verify that the pedals are the same as far as the pushrod going through the firewall and where it attaches to the pedal. Should be a simple unbolt from the Camaro and bolt to the TA, but as I said, my car was the mechanical linkage type and I don't have any experience with the hydraulic linkage on these cars. I'm sure others here have experience with them and can chime in. Good luck with the conversion.

Thanks..

I did finally get that hyrdraulic linkage out of the camaro just yesterday. Turned out to be way easier than i thought, as far as removing it from the camaro. I dono why i couldnt figure out how to get the damn thing out before. Didnt help that there was a bunch of snow every time i wanted to work on it (the car is outside)

Now i got it into the trans am, it wasnt too much of a problem but it was some work. I had to remove the big brake cylinder or whatever it is, just unbolted it and moved it back some, i had to drill new bolt holes for the new cylinder thing that goes through the firewall. I did not hook the pedal up yet, but it looks like it will work fine.

Now, one problem. It looks like im missing parts off that hydraulic linkage from the camaro!!! Not good.. Its missing a rod or something at the end, where the rubber boot is it has nothing to push on the clutch thing. And im not sure if this linkage is even good. I sure hope it is, but i want to find out before i bolt that brake cylinder back in, cuz that was ALOT of work struggling to get the nuts off it from inside/under the dash.

If anyone has any pics or anything to help me figure out what im missing, names, part numbers etc. I looked online and couldnt find anything of help.
