Hi All when My car was redone late 80s early 90s I got a lower rear valance the part below bumper where the RS back up lights go. It was the only one we could fine at the time not sure Brand. (could not get GM one then) We had to cut out the opening for the lights and ever since then I see and hear people say after they look under the back that my car is NOT a Real RS. because there was a brace or bracket around where the lights go through My panel did not have them. DOES ANYONE HAVE A PIC of this and Any idea what it is call or where if at all I could get a set. I have been looking for old rear panels to get a set but with no luck. thanks

Dan Im not sure what they were talking about. I presume you are talking about your 67??
Mine is 69 so maybe its different than the 67. I dont have pics of 67 stuff but I dont have braces or brackets behind my light cutouts at all. Maybe they were talking about where the 'bumper brace' is? Thats inside the trunk but the holes come thru the tail panel right above the cutout hole.
Im stummped... no braces behind mine at all.

Hi I was told that the brace/brackets? would be around where the lights go through maybe like a gusset? My lights bolt through but with large fender washers . This is a 67 rs thing only I guess maybe like a 67 front turn/parking light bracket? I need a pic . I have no 67s to look at in my area. everyone has a 9. I can not remember what it looked like back in 89 when it was done heck i was just happy I was getting it done at all.

I have no bracket on my 67rs on the backup lights. They go through the tailpan cutouts and the secondary panel which is right behind the tailpan. The housing studs go through and they are held in with nuts from behind.
Heres a link to a pic of the inner pannel on my 67rs

Sorry Dan but to be honest I have no clue what you are asking for. If you can be more descriptive and post a pic that would help.

I think it was only on GM sheet metal? You would bolt the lights in like normal but on the in side as per the above pic there was a (I guess) i bracket/brace or a plate the light went through that was a GM factory sheet metal Item. I can not find any pics of this and not sure If i an searching sites with the correct (wording) Calling all 67rs cars with factory sheet metal to take a look and post a pic.

My tailpan was NOS GM sheetmetal and I had to cut out the RS backup light holes. I dont believe the rs tailpanel was available with holes for the backup lights but maybe early replacement ones were Someone with the facts will chime in but I dont think there was anything on the sheetmetal. When I cut out my original tailpanel there were no brackets just as you see it in my pics.

Here's a photo of my original.

It's just silly what I went through to get this... put on coat, out to dark/cold, find digital camera, get light, crawl under car, camera battery dies.

Go in house, search for new batteries. Find one(need two). Ask wife, no help. Look at kid toys all over living room for battery doners.

Find fan spritzer bottle from Disney World. Take out batteries, they are HOT? WTF?? Oh yeah, kid left it ON and fan was jammed. Dead batteries.

Look for additional candidates. Find robotic music-playing penguin(I hate that penguin). Perform "battery-ectomy" on penguin. More dead batteries!

Get bright idea, use wife's camera. But wife just took 600(really, 600) photos at Disney. Caution. Don't want to have to search through 600 photos to find camaro light photo. Change media card.

Back out to garage. Finally take photo.
Upload to photobucket. Can't copy photo to post. WTF now? try again. Hit save like 4 times. Close photobucket. reopen photobucket. SCREW photobucket!!!!

Finally figure it out and laugh my butt off writing this post.l:)

Bottom line, original RS metal here, no strange brackets. Just a bunch of dirt and undercoat. I hope it helps and you get a laugh out of this too! :D
