Just a word of warning for my fellow enthusiasts I was on the hunt for a custom air cleaner assembly that I could use on my 69z that has Edlebrock FI. My idea was to use the cold air off of the cowl instead of engine compartment air. Using the stock plenum piece and gasket on a custom built base. I contacted Walter Prosper. This guy makes some really cool air cleaner assemblies but they all use hot air. I called... he agreed to do a design but first I had to send my plenum and a new gasket along with photos and clearance dimensions. That was in OCT of 08. I have called several times and emailed him he just ignores me. Now I have to buy new pieces because he refuses to send back my parts. Too bad because if he would have come though it would have been a neat piece to share with everyone. Be careful if you do any business with Walter Prosper. Just an FYI

What Edlebrock throttle body are you using? 3500 Proflo?

If so, you should be able to use the stock style low profile cowl hood air cleaner for continous use. I don't have the EFI throttle body now , but being I had one on a Tri Five car, it looks like the air cleaner will fit. All of this will have to be a low profile air cleaner.

I just removed my flap out of the frame and screened in the frame to hood. Constant cold air feed from outside.

Don,

That is excatly what I want to do. You speak of a low profile cowl hood air cleaner. Do you have a part number or parts house that has these? Did you use the extension flange and seal so it was snug to the underside of the hood?

I am using the stock style, low profile cowl air cleaner and seal. I did not use the upper extension flange. When you install the rubber seal, there are two ways this seal can be installed, I found out recently what others have done . There is a recent post on this subject listed in the restoration topics.

I am using the factory valve cover vents tubes on the right side thru factory finned covers, I dont think the rear air solenoid will interfer with the base. I think you should be able to clear the fuel rails.
BTW, I you need a fuel pressure regulator(in the front) , I have a spare. Seems I ordered one and forgot all about it. When I sold my 57, everything went with it.
I managed to get 23 mpg with this set up on a 350 ZZ3 crate motor with a 700R4 and 3.70 gears. Good crusing car. If you need photos of my air cleaner and cowl vent, send me an email and I will send them tonight.
You should be able to order an complete cowl air cleaner from Ricks or Classics, I see them now at about $200 for the complete kit, with the extension , probably have to order the seal seperatly unless they now come in a kit.
Maybe you have a friend that has one and will let you trial fit?

I would just like to clarify that Mr. Brinson's parts were returned in the same condition as received. The unit he required was outside of our manufacturing ability. When we realized that we were unable to manufacture what he wanted, we returned the parts immediately upon his request.
