For the fifth time in Chevrolet history, the Camaro will pace the 2009 Indianapolis 500. This ends a five year reign held by the Chevrolet Corvette.

The pace car will be a 2010 Camaro SS with a 426 hp 6.3-liter V8 and a the Tremec six-speed manual transmission. The ONLY modifications made to the pace car will be the addition of strobe lighting!

Now if we can do something about the paint scheme...

I gotta agree about that paint! Wish they would've went to the camaro5 forum or somewhere and had someone there do a render of the paint. My stepson used to do nascar renders all the time and actually had one or two on the track. I think most any thing would look better than the torn look on this and the Daytona car. Glad to see the car on the track but I'm not going to my dealer for a pace car replica.

You would think that since this IS the 40th anniversary of the 69 Camaro Pace Car that someone would have had the idea to repeat that awesome paint combination. I think it would look fantastic on the new Camaro, rather than just another silver painted car.

I'd be open to something along these lines :D

The list of drivers is as interesting as the cars, but the picture doesn't always match the driver. I thought Caroll Shelby looked funny in 1987, but it's the same guy driving in the picture for 1977, so it's not him.

Is that the definitive pace car picture for Daytona?

I like the idea for the 69 redo...in fact I asked at the NYC car show why the white Camaro option vanished recently. See the 2010 camaro "build your own" on the chevy site, can no longer choose white? The GM woman said the silver ice was close to white, so they pulled white color option?

I told the lady from GM I was surmising that GM wants to debut the white Camaro at Daytona with orange stripes like the 69.

She smiled and said I like your answer better...so you never know?
