Hey Guy's I have a 79 camaro with a harwood 4" bolt on cowl hood and the springs they recommend will not hold the hood up. I called Harwood back in july and told them my problems and they said that was the heaviest spring they made eye to eye for my car, try using the stock springs. wtf. I know they would buckle the hood probably half way closed. called them back they said they would have to make a custom set of springs probably 20lbs. more tension. needless to say they never got back to me or when I would call the two different people I dealt with on the phone they were never available. I'm looking for some info.on using a prop rod. Cause right now I'm using a custom broom handle to hold it up. not real cool at the local shows and cruises. If someone is using a prop rod would you please give me some insight on how and where you mounted it at, and what vehicle you got it out of. any info. or pics. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Guy's

We tried a prop rod on a friend's 2nd gen race car, it got in the way when we were working on it between rounds. Easiest solution was to take a loop of small diameter steel cable, open the hood and hook it around where the spring would go. Kept it open and was lighter than the prop rod. We screwed a bracket to the hinge to hold the loop in place, that way it was always there and only had to be hooked on one side when the hood was opened.

I did the same, sorta. I took stainless wire and did a couple loops around the hinge and when the hood is raised, loop the wire around the hinge stop, the angled tip and its corresponding articulated lever.

It may not be the coolest but you can run a smaller Hi-Tension spring inside the original Hood Springs. It can give you a few pounds more pressure.
