View Full Version : Just smashed up my truck tonight
jr68 Feb 28th, 09, 06:08 PM Me and my wife and my 13 year old son were coming home from a trip from a local building center with a load of baseboards when coming to a traffic light.
I was doing about 45 and didn't realize how slippery the road was when the light turned yellow I started to brake to slow down and it started to drift sideways. I went right through the intersection and clipped off the traffic light pole like a toothpick then up and over the curb on the other end of the intersection and hit the power box which caved in the door and shattered the window. No one really got hurt except my wife cut her hand on some broken glass.
98blackburb Feb 28th, 09, 06:11 PM Glad everyone is ok ,well almost. It could have been worse. I know when things like this happen to me I appreciate the things that matter most.Material things can be fixed.
dharvey Feb 28th, 09, 06:13 PM man, thats a bad day..glad to here all are ok.sounds like it could have been worse..denny
Badbird Feb 28th, 09, 06:23 PM WOW!.....What a slide man!!.....Are you going to have to pay for the traffic light pole and the power box?
jr68 Feb 28th, 09, 06:57 PM WOW!.....What a slide man!!.....Are you going to have to pay for the traffic light pole and the power box?
The cop said my insurance should take care of that otherwise I can imagine how expensive that could be especially on the weekend like this.
I cant believe how she slid , and the intersection was clear and dry too.
Funny thing is I could see the faces of the people as I was gliding across the intersection and saw the pole coming and watched it snap and knew where I was going to stop. It was so freaky then I felt like such an idiot for doing that.
And yes , as long as everyone is ok is all that matters.
Ken Larsen Feb 28th, 09, 07:30 PM Jerry-that sucks glad everyone is o.k. got called out yesterday to 2 of the same things.was really slippery at intersections and yup both took out stop lights. being a gov't employee i can tell you "yes" they will send a bill to your ins. carrier for both. hope tomorrow is a better day and glad it wasn't the camaro !!!!
Ken
67 camaro-still a work in progress

dawg Feb 28th, 09, 08:15 PM glad all are ok
but being that your from the great white north you should be aware of black ice!
plus the towns are not sanding and salting like they used to.
CJ.SUTTON Feb 28th, 09, 08:19 PM boy can I relate!! Last Sunday I was going to work at about 5:30p. It was snowing but it wasn't to bad. I was coming to a T intersection, stop was their road. Their Durango slid through the stop sign. By the time I realized they were not going to stop, too late. Hit her doing between 30 35 in her drivers door slid the whole length down her car. I took out the drivers door, rear door, rear quarter, and her bumber and tail light section. My truck lost it's front clip, blew right front tire, and air bag went off. First I said it, then almost did it! Ins. est. as of now for me is appox.7500.Luckily we both walked away unhurt. God I love my truck: White 2005 Silverado Ext. 5.3(L33) 4x4 with 22000 miles.
theChuckster Feb 28th, 09, 08:30 PM Glad to hear everyones ok. If you have to pay for the pole you should be able to install your own Adopted by....sign. My brother in law bought one not too long ago here for 2800.
dnult Feb 28th, 09, 10:54 PM Glad everyone is OK. It's hard to keep from panicing when the brake pedal doesn't work as expected. Next time bump it up into neutral or depress the clutch to keep the back wheels from pushing while the fronts lock up. It'll help you stop quicker and should give you some front wheel control if you don't brake too agressively.

Blade Mar 1st, 09, 07:26 AM Sorry to hear that. Glad everyone is ok!
BigBlock1969RS Mar 1st, 09, 07:31 AM Glad everyone is okay!
Joe Harrison Mar 1st, 09, 09:31 AM Glad no one was hurt and it was pole you hit instead of other people, it make insurance much more easy to deal with. Make sure you medical payments on your insurance are used and not medical coverage from your employer if you have it.
BTW:
everyone look at your insurance policy, medical payments are an option in some states and not manditory. Its a very good idea to have it, don't ask how I know and keep them adjusted to the size of your family or what you can afford.....again don't ask me how I know!! Even when you have it insurance companys can be a pain. We have only ever had one accident and am I glad I had the medical payments on my insurance or things would have been very expensive from the hospital!!! 6 people in the emergency room, transport to it and 2 ICU stays for 1 day!!
Joe
jr68 Mar 1st, 09, 09:57 AM Other than the tailgate and corner of the box that was tagged by the pole falling and hitting it here is the damage.

Ken Larsen Apr 5th, 09, 07:29 PM Jerry
looks good-tell the guys where we live a catcher is a must!! between all the bambi's(deer) and cows on the loose if you don't have one your truck is in the body shop every other week!!!! did they ever send you a bill for the stop light?
67 coupe-still trying !!!!
jr68 Apr 5th, 09, 07:58 PM Ken, I never saw a bill for it , my insurance company is awesome ( American Family ) they took care of everything. Turns out I smacked that thing so hard it cracked the battery. The body man found that.
p.s. I hit 2 deer so far with it and found no damage just hair.
Jonesy Apr 5th, 09, 09:26 PM Looks good to me.

Nothing wrong with your account, I posted the link directly from your account. If you hit "quote" on my above post, and aren't in the advanced editor, you can see the actual link text instead of the picture.
Anyway, nice truck ;)

Thats the TDDD (Tactical Deer Diverter Device). Comes equipped on all Pick 'em ups in the Northern Tier States.
Just for S&Gs..ask your ins Co. what the price of a stop light is.
