Just looking at all the people loosing their jobs,I was just wondering how many of you are laid off or unemployed and still trying to get your car done. And how are you getting through it?I am currently laid off since Jan.9th. Last year I was laid off about the same time.I was off for 10 months.I am a carpenter and it's normally slow for us at this time, but never this long.:sad:

There was a recent poll in one of the forums and I believe the number of us out of work was over 10%. I haven't completely shut down car projects but until I'm back to work most of the project money is not being touched, just in case...

I too am out of work and going crazy. I'm waist deep in a house remodeland still spending money on that. Next week I'm off to Florida for vacation. When i come back I'm seriously thinking of going back to work at something that just pays enough to get me off unemployment.

I am the owner of a construction company. I have 5 employes and just had to lay of 2 of them. If things dont get better soon there will be more coming. I planned on installing a TKO600 in my car over the winter but theres no way Im gonna spend that money now. Last year I bought a ZZ502 crate engine, fuel injection, SS gas tank, Etc. stockpiled all of it for my winter project. It has kept me busy bought really would have loved to do the trans while it was all apart. Oh well thats life. At least I dont have to sell it to survive. (Not yet Anyway)

We are still working 40+ hour weeks. But tomorrow the owner and the "exempt" employees are meeting to discuss cutting the office hours down to 32-36 hours. I can deal with that.

I have seen a big increase of engineering companies in my area cut or furlough people in the last couple of months.

They don't make much in the USA anymore. 50-60 billion dollars a month trade deficit, caught up to us. I run a small business and so does my brother and several friends. We have never seen anything like it. If you do get a job, you really have to wonder if you will get paid for it. I am not sure what catalyst will turn it around. World War 3? I hope not but, there are not many factories in the USA anymore. I don't think an economy can make it on govt jobs, retail, and restaraunts. We had this coming for a long time, i guess the politicians could not see it.

I've been laid off since november. Final test engineer for a major semiconductor equipment manufacturer. I bought my 67 and all the parts to put it together a week before I got laid off, so I have been working on it to keep myself busy. I don't want to get lazy. I send out my resume a few times a week, but it's not looking good.

I't doesn't look good, does it?This started going down hill for me in 2001, after the attacks. At the time I was building new homes, had 2 spec houses just finished and ready to sell.needless to say, everything stopped for a good while.I had to make payments on both for nearly 2 years before they sold,I lost a lot of money. After that I quit building homes except for the one I'm living in now.So I closed up shop, went to work for commercial contractors and here I am now,Laid-off! But SPRING is COMING! I JUST WANT TO GET THE CAMARO ON THE ROAD! IT'S CLOSE ,JUST A FEW THOUSAND MORE DOLLARS!
