View Full Version : Ever been car-jacked while in your Camaro?
Microgiant Mar 2nd, 09, 11:36 AM As my car starts looking nicer and nicer my wife and I are getting more and more nervous that we are becoming a mark. Are the odds going up that we will be the target of crime because we have such a nice toy? Should I get a permit to carry a gun? Or are we just being paranoid? What are your thoughts?
onovakind67 Mar 2nd, 09, 11:39 AM I think you're just paranoid.
dawg Mar 2nd, 09, 11:54 AM I carry a .45 with me all the time!
onovakind67 Mar 2nd, 09, 12:02 PM I carry a .45 with me all the time!
You've got a record player?
Brackneyc Mar 2nd, 09, 12:06 PM How do you think I got the Camaro I have now?:) Sure beats buying one a fixing it up.
Badbird Mar 2nd, 09, 12:30 PM I try to avoid the slum areas but here in Michigan, law abiding citizens are allowed to carry a concealed weapon providing you have a CCW permit.....I'm virtually always armed with a sweet little stainless Charter Arms, Bulldog Pug, .44 spl loaded with Winchester 44 S&W spl, 200 grain silvertip hollow points, these are personal protection rounds!:thumbsup:

camaroman7d Mar 2nd, 09, 12:43 PM I think you're paranoid. Insure the car for what it's worth and enjoy it. If someone steals it replace it. If you are getting car jacked (which means an armed individual comes up to your window while you are stopped and forces you out of the car) what good is a gun going to do you? He will already have his pulled.
I carry left jab and right hook with me at all times, if that won't get the job done then I guess it wasn't meant to be.
rsbecool Mar 2nd, 09, 12:45 PM Some instance allow you to carry a firearm in you car in Texas. Check on this House Bill. HB01815I.pdf (33.1 KB)
paulm Mar 2nd, 09, 12:48 PM I carry left jab and right hook with me at all times, if that won't get the job done then I guess it wasn't meant to be.
LOL, me too but ya know their effectivenes is just not what it used to be anymore, LOL!
Cam6t9 Mar 2nd, 09, 12:59 PM relax
Melrose RS Mar 2nd, 09, 01:08 PM I'd ask where do you drive? I would certainly avoid areas where I'd feel like a target.
68rs406 Mar 2nd, 09, 01:42 PM You're paranoid no doubt. But.....just because you are paranoid doesn't mean they are not after you.....;)

I like it Royce..... I can see that working for you but what about guys like me? ;)
camaroman7d Mar 2nd, 09, 02:15 PM LOL, me too but ya know their effectivenes is just not what it used to be anymore, LOL!
LOL, that just means you have to throw a few more. If that doesn't work I hope your legs are still good, so you can run.

It's not the big guys you have to look out for it's the smaller guys that are usually the mean/crazy ones.
camaroman7d Mar 2nd, 09, 02:19 PM To be 100% serious why would you take your car anywhere that is "risky". You wouldn't wear gold chains and a Rolex through the ghetto, so why drive a car that is worth far more than either in a similar area? Unless times have changed or your area is a lot different than out here, the car jackers usually don't go to nice areas to jack cars. It's the nice cars in bad areas that get jacked. Keep your nice car out of a bad area and the odds are in your favor.
Badbird Mar 2nd, 09, 02:22 PM It's not the big guys you have to look out for it's the smaller guys that are usually the mean/crazy ones.
All you really have to do is give him a swift kick in the nutsack providing he ain't armed with a dangerous weapon!
Skeeter55 Mar 2nd, 09, 02:34 PM Do all the above.... Make sure your car has an appraisal and is insured in writing with a total loss payout for an agreed amount with no question ask.
67for/me Mar 2nd, 09, 02:44 PM Throw the keys into traffic and tell him to go get them. Than enjoy the show :popcorn:grab the chair out of the trunk, and watch the guy get run over a few times. Than call the cops.

Lol, this is true (How many guys would like to tangle with 5'6" 140# Urijah Faber for example :noway:?) .
Raised by a wrestling coach and wrestling just about my entire life throughout school helps too, but because of that I was always the guy everyone wanted to wrestle at parties, it was fun for awhile...But I tangled with a couple of my buddies (all in fun) that where about your size and I can say, eventually size does matter.....:D
I agree though, big or small, gun or no gun somebody could take it from you if they wanted, period. But why worry about it? As said stay out of areas you might get jacked and otherwise enjoy it, the chances of it happening are very slim even in rough areas IMO.
TJS69 Mar 2nd, 09, 05:42 PM I don't think a car jacker is going to risk, trying to steal a classic car from its owner. The blond girl in the BMW would be a much easier target.
ace's68 Mar 2nd, 09, 06:40 PM "your paranoid"
Is what most confident Camaro owners say...and then they go out to the parking lot and their life is gone.
There is no such thing as being too paranoid.
Get a concealed hand gun license, install gps tracking in the vehicle, safer door locks, and do something to make starting not so easy (like a battery shut off that requires a key)
I don't know if you mean straight up car jacking "hey give me your car in the middle of traffic" or the car just being stolen. A straight up car jacking isn't likely but I know San Antonio pretty well and some parts of down town are very questionable.
...but your also talking to a person who would rig dynamite to their car if it was not started in the correct order as a defense mechanism. I'm also about 5'6" and 130lbs and if someone tried to car jack me I'd just dump the clutch and yell "come get me ******" with a nice little hand gesture.
OK69 Mar 2nd, 09, 06:53 PM If he walks up to your car with a a gun, and starts to point it at you, shoot him first.
chriss69 Mar 2nd, 09, 07:18 PM In my case I'd be impressed if the car jacker could figure out how to get it in gear!
1969 RS/SS DROPTOP Mar 2nd, 09, 07:36 PM I was car jacked in my camaro by an old girlfriend does that count?? :)
1969 RS/SS DROPTOP Mar 2nd, 09, 08:31 PM Now those were the good old days . Boy the drive in's were my favorite place for this:beers:.
Yes the good ole days of girlfriends, drive-ins, and seedless buds. http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m204/rosebud_017/yes.gif http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m204/rosebud_017/thumbsup.gif http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m204/rosebud_017/biggrin.gif
Eleanor's Nemesis Mar 2nd, 09, 08:37 PM I love the comedy, good stuff,lol.
Just take some precautions. I no longer get gas at night unless I am traveling long distance just to avoid any unwelcome possibilities.
ace's68 Mar 2nd, 09, 09:18 PM omg this thread is going to be locked so quickly.
funny stuff though, and true.:beers:
Steptoe Mar 2nd, 09, 11:46 PM Move to NZ, guns are illegall and car jacking is something we do do to change a wheel.
RobSS1113 Mar 3rd, 09, 12:13 AM Tim you live in Texas and you Do not own a gun ?? come on man, I could of Sworn all us Texans are packing heat.
You in San Antonio huh ?? Just stay away from the South Side and you will be fine .. LOL
usa1 Mar 3rd, 09, 05:29 AM My right foot reaction time is faster than their trigger finger! And my car is faster than a bullet!
WOW, this thread isn't one you would see in the UK! Sure we have some car jacking but it is normally new expensive cars and you're not allowed to carry a piece anyhoo so you would just let them take it.
In South Africa they are allowed to fit flame throwers under the side of cars to roast car jackers! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/232777.stm

That is AWESOME!!!
BK69 Mar 5th, 09, 09:47 AM We should change the title of this thread to read: Ever been jacked off while in your camaro?:thumbsup:
Ron, you are so damn funny, still laughing about that statement, you are the George Carlin of the camaro world.
jr68 Mar 5th, 09, 06:46 PM I carry a .45 with me all the time!
I'm packin pistons :beers:
theChuckster Mar 5th, 09, 09:05 PM Carjacking a hot rod that everyone looks at when it goes by, I doubt that would happen because of the recognition on the get away. I'd think if a thief's sights are set on a Camaro it would be in the shadows of darkness or night or when unaccompanied where they have time for a clean get away so as to have time to strip it. What I've heard of in regards to carjackings, it's been where the criminal needed a ride now, at that moment and took the easiest target. Like the other guys said, try not to make yourself an easy target.
captcanuck68 Mar 6th, 09, 07:05 AM You've got a record player?
Made my morning, Harry...or is it "Dirty Harry"?
I'd think that parking it in a bad area...even outta sight at times, while in a restaurant/motel, would be more of a ...problem? There are anti-theft devices that allow you to kill the motor once the perp attemps to drive away... and these cut in a short distance from where the car was jacked. I've got it on mine...a Clifford set up.
And Harry... dont' bother with the 45 when you can have a 78.:)

camaroman7d Mar 6th, 09, 03:24 PM I see one persona "voted" they were car jacked but, I did see a posting stating what happened. I also see 4 others have "voted" they have been victims of another crime 'because" of their Camaro but, I don't see any explainations?
omg this thread is going to be locked so quickly.
funny stuff though, and true.:beers:
No not locked but with all the DNA evidence collected cleaning up the posts CSI is having a field day! ;)
Dayton68Z28 Mar 6th, 09, 04:16 PM Either of these are good deterents

Dont jump to conclusions, having a gun in Texas is a birthright! I just prefer to align myself with the correct side of the law and not be caught in possesion of a concealed hangun without the proper paperwork.
Ive been a victim of crime more times than I can remember. (Break ins and such.) And Ive never had a car this nice and attention getting.
molaker Mar 6th, 09, 05:01 PM I've been highjacked by a guy that wanted to talk my leg off about the 68 Z-28 CONV he once had, tried to tell no conv were made wouldn't listen and ramble on for 20-30 minutes about cars he once had I had to be the nice guy and listen

Dude that sucks, thats the main reason I rarely show my face at car shows because everyone is an expert on your car and make but yourself. It is awkward when you try and tell a person different and they argue with you.
I believe only 1 or 2 z/28verts were made, I remember seeing it in a CHP article and it was a GM vehicle only for a big head at GM. I'm not making this up, but I don't think any were released to the public.
I love to hear about peoples ULTRA RARE RS/Z28/SS/4-speed/TH-400/yenko/copo/kiki camaros at the shows that they "wish they wouldn't have sold."

Car shows are not that much different than talking to folks here... Some have the facts, some have them half right and some well they try... Switch your Z28 convertible info to only one, it was a '68. :D

lol yeah it can be similar but face to face makes things so much more interesting.

NHBandit Mar 7th, 09, 06:55 AM Move to NZ, guns are illegall and car jacking is something we do do to change a wheel. So you feel safer because it's illegal to defend yourself ? I think I'll stay right here (at least until Mr Obama takes our guns)....
okiemark Mar 7th, 09, 07:40 AM I just rig my ignition to explosives like Mel Gibson in Mad Max.
Mad Max Mar 7th, 09, 08:55 AM I'd like too see what happens to the poor sole who tries to jack my car while I'm driving...garauenteed he'll be missing at least one arm in about .500 seconds!
XLexusTech Mar 7th, 09, 11:59 AM I carry a .45 with me all the time!
