So, I've got a 92 RS 305 TBI. Absolutely love this car. Enough of all that. I'm am having a problem with it.. It starts and runs but try's to die on me while moving. At stop lights I have to put it in Netrual just to keep it running. I thought I was because of a big crack in my tail pipe I patched it up good and now really it just seems to be worse. Theres a few things it could be that I have found out, just wanted some advice or information from someone that had the same problem, I know theres a lot of people that have had the same problem. Please let me know anything! Thanks

check your timing and see if it retarded.

Buy A Haynes manual and read up. It will tell you how to pull the diagnostic codes from the ECM.
It will tell you what the sensors should be reading, such as the TPS, Throttle Position Sensor, how to set base timing and base idle rpm.
How does the engine run when cold? High rpm, around 1400-1600 rpm?
Are the sprk plugs wet with fuel after it warms up?
Is the EGR valve leaking?
Dirty air filter?
Check Engine Light on?
Need a little more info.

Brand new air filter. Check engine light comes on only about once a week for maybe ten mins. I just changed the plugs, wires, and distributor. Not sure if the plugs are getting wet I will check that. Will also check the EGR valve. Just changed the fuel filter thought it might not be getting enough fuel, plus it needed a new one. Fuel pump maybe? Yeah about 1600 rpm when engine is cold..done that since I bought it 2 years ago, when it ran like a dream. Don't think this has anything to do with it running the way it is, but as soon as it started doing this the fan quit working to. Checked the fuse it's fine, everything else on it looked ok to. Like I said tho at lights I have to put it in netrual if you try and stomp on it it boggs down like a manual would if you try and start off in 4th gear or so. Almost inpossible to go from reverse to drive without it dying. But I'm still having to drive it to get to work ya know and I know im just making it worse.

My guess would be fuel injector or clogged catalytic converter. You need to check your fuel pressure.

Interesting the fan doesn't work. Fan relay is controlled by the ECM, ECM is getting coolant temp from its sensor by the thermostat, the two-wire one. Does the engine idle down when hot? Does idle stay the same when a load is placed on the engine?
If sensor is bad, as in not showing hot coolant temp(150-180 ohms), the sensor always staying at 'cold' temp (high resistance above 5K ohms), then fan(s) will not come on and fuel mixture will be rich, plugs will be dry sooty black. Or, the wire harness is bad from the sensor connector to the ECM. Also, onw wire of the sensor has an ECM reference voltage of 5 volts, as with all input sensor circuitry. This 5 volts is a reference for the ECM and the sensors send back a lower voltage and the ECM uses this lower voltage as a deciding factor of fuel to distribute. I digress.
The fan should come on when MAX A/C or DEFrost is selected and compressor clutch might engage.
These are my thoughts and yes, could be a clogged convertor, but I would think the engine would clear up idling, more noticable at road speed (WOT) - slow gain in speed.
