I was wondering what month of production did GM start using the Plastic Front Seat Backs instead of Metal? on 67 Camaros. A Friend has a 67 Z28 and his are Plastic and he thought maybe it should have the Metal backs. The car is 04C.
I did a search but could find no definate answer.

Mine is first week of January and metal.

Mine are 01D and metal & 06B and plastic.

My 04D is metal.
Could it be a NOR/LOS thing?

His Norwood Z28 has plastic backs, and in taking the plastic covers off, the steel ones will not fit, unless the upper hooks are moved up on the seat frame which would require drilling new holes for the attaching screws that hold the brackets, so the seat frames must be unique to whether the backs are steel or plastic.
This Z28 was a race car at 1 point, so we are not sure if the seats are original to the car.

As long as the two upper brackets that hold the plastic seat back on can be removed, you can change over to metal seat backs.

The metal back requires only ONE bracket in the upper center of the frame which is a different style (longer) than the two plastic back style brackets.

Some plastic back seats had the two brackets welded on the frame. If this is the case, then it's easier to change the upper seat frame.

If you can unscrew the two outer brackets, then there should be two holes drilled at an angle from each other to mount the metal back bracket in the upper center frame.

If that's the case, you're in business.

BTW, good luck finding the brackets!
