Went to go replace mine, and can't find the freakin' thing! The book says that it'll be screwed into the block or into the coolant tank, I can't find it anywhere, any ideas?.

Computer one is on top of the intake manifold towards the drivers side of the thermostat.
The gauge one is on the drivers side towards the front of the cylinder head.

Awesome, found both of them, thanx much! I was told by a mechanic buddy of mine that that might fix the idle problems that I'm having, and I'm replacing the Intake Gaskets as well, should i replace both of them? I'm pretty sure that the Gauge one is bad at the very least, whereas my temp gauge never goes above 100 degrees. Any input would be great, thanks again!

sounds like the thermostat is stuck open, that would be why the gauge won't go above 100. that will affect the fuel mixture and could make the car run rough. you can change the computer temp sender as well because it's cheap. why are you changing the intake gaskets.......do you suspect and intake leak? if you're not sure about a leak, i would change the t-stat and temp sender and see how it runs before changing the gaskets....let us know how you make out. my son has a 94 4.3 and i've pretty much done it all with that one....lol

the stock gauge starts at 100F

even with a stuck thermo, the temp will get a bit higher than that IMO

but does the gauge move at all? that will tell you if the thermo is stuck or if it is the sensor, if the gauge stays bottomed out then i would say sensor, but if it moves up to 100 i would guess a stuck open thermo

what idle problems are you having? i dont really know the whole OBDI system too much, but if the sensor went bad, you should get a SES light and your fans should turn on 100% of the time

not true.....you can unplug the sensor and the fan doesn't come on and neither does the SES light....damn OBD1, the fan might run off the temp sender not the coolant sensor for the computer....not sure........had the stuck open t-stat in the winter and the gauge never moved off the bottom (100).
let us know what you find.....

Sorry for such a late reply, been a busy couple of days. The gauge does start at 100, and never moves. Not on startup, not when warm, not when cold. The only reason I was going to change the gaskets was that i couldn't figure out how to get to the damned things without taking everything apart, they seem to be in the hardest spots possible:) As far as the idle goes, it's just incredibly high, and the car is running hot as all get out. (which, from what i hear can be just from one of these sensors?) Is there a quick easy way to change them?

the sensors will not make the car run hot......a stuck t-stat will.......or if the cooling system is air bound.....check the radiator when the car is cold and make sure that it's full.....the 3.4's also are known to blow head gaskets which will use coolant and make it overheat. if the engine is low on coolant there might not be enough coolant to activate the sensor......the high idle can be several things, right now try to get the temp thing fogured out.

yeah, i wasnt sure about the OBDI, thats why i gave my little warning.. i know it happens on the OBDII cars

i know the fans are run off of the temp sensor because i have broke one before, im not too sure about the coolant sensor.. but i would imagine it would

the reason why i asked if the gauged moved is because usually it will move a tiny bit,but if the sensor is bad, it wont move at all

K, I drained my fluid, took the throttle body off, and got to both of the sensors. Is there anything else i should replace and or do while I'm in there? Am I understanding everyone correct that i should replace the thermostat as well?

Sounds good, I'll try to get it all thrown back together tomorrow and let you all know how it goes!

Running WAY better, with a warmed idle of approx 800 (down from 13-1500.)

Thanx all!
