HI, i own a 1968 camaro which i'm restoring...
it has the original 327 engine with the steel valve covers...
I was wondering if the valve covers bolts were painted while bolted on the block and received the same orange coating as the engine...
OR were the valve covers painted elsewhere and then bolted on the block with the regular chrome bolts that they will sell me on restoration parts sites?
I want the camaro to be as original as possible
thanks

as far as i know, the engines were put together bare and then painted as an assembly. i've even heard of Z/28 restos with the "correct" amount of overspray on the bare aluminum intake and valve covers..
but, then again, i'm not a resto kind of guy, so don't take this as the final word on the subject..

Bolts were painted. In addition to Erics info. a search of "valve cover bolts" at CRG will reveal numerous threads addressing this issue, as well as their extensive database ( the informative red rectangle).

since base cars had painted covers, they were installed and plainted assembled therefore painted bolts. cars with chrome covers have unpainted bolts.
