I want to get a set of the 15" track use steel wheels.

Here's what I have on the car now on the rear:
Boyd Junkyard Dog wheel:
20x8.5"
Tire is 26 1/2 tall
5" Backspace (from mounting surface to back lip of wheel)

In the wheel well, from the mounting surface to the upper fender lip, I have 4 3/4" of room.

From the surface to the inside edge of the wheel well at the front, I have 6"

Would this size wheel fit?

15x10" wheel with 5" OFFSET

Is offset from the front of the lip to the mounting surface of the tire?
If I want the tire to sit inside the wheel well a bit, do I want a larger or smaller offset?

Do I need to measure anything else to make sure I get the order right the first time?

Any vendors here sell this type of racing wheel?

I don't think it would fit,
With 5 inch backspacing you have the rest of the rim (5 inches) sticking out from the mounting surface, but you only measured 4 3/4 inches, and then you still need room for tire

However if your rear end is really high up there with lots of clearance above the tire you might not have a problem.

And back spacing is the measure from the back of the rim to the mounting surface so more backspacing would put the rim further under the car.


Is that a fuel line running through your wheel well?

And a side note, 20 inch rims and you still have drums...

Haven't gotten around the to rear disc conversion yet.

So would I need a wheel with more backspace so I could get more of it deeper in the wheel well?

Or am I limited to an 8.5" wheel with something like 4 or 5" of backspace?

more backspace would help you clear the outer wheel well lip
but you have to leave room for tire clearance so I don't know how much sidewall bulge your tires on 15" rims would have, but I would think like 1/2" to 3/4" at least...
which in my mind means you shouldn't go much more than 5" of backspacing
but if you go with more backspacing you can add a spacer to push the wheel out (basically taking out some backspacing)

I guess this is part of the reason why most people say 9.5" is the widest you can go and even that requires careful measuring

You could compare what you have on there now to get an idea of how wider rims will fit

Your current rims are 5" backspacing, how much room do you have behind the tires?

But they only stick out from the mounting flange 3 1/2" so the 10" wide rim will stick out 1 1/2" more will that work?

And if your current wheels are 26 1/2" tall how tall will the new ones be?
And how much more or less clearance at the top of the tire to the edge of the quarter panel will there be?

Oh, and when ever you do switch over to discs they are thicker than the drums you have now, so it will change things again.

Would it be 'safer' for me to measure clearance with the wheels on the car and then post those numbers here?

I need to get some wheels ordered this week...I don't want to go to the track with these wheels on the car.
