I have a factory 3 speed manual in a 66 Impala convertible with a little ol' 283/2barrel in it.

It's time for a new clutch,....any recommendations or advice? I don't know if it's a 10.5" or a 10.95/11" or what.
Do I really need to buy a pressure plate too?

The car is a cruiser, not a bruiser.

Jegs displays these:

Summit's site only showed these two:

I'm not sure why some show up as 10.4" instead of what seems like a more normal 10.5"......assuming that is what I have.
Thanks for the help!

I have the zoom stage 2 and love it. Minimal pedal pressure and I've been beating the crap out of it for 3 years now with no signs of wear.

I second the Zoom clutch. Nice pedal feel. Mine is a high performance one and the pedal still feels good.

Most likely a 10.5 ,A cruser like you said , go to your local Autoparts store and get stock replmt. ,resurface your flywheel and go Happy motoring

Heck, the cheap stock replacement Summit/Perfection Gear/ZOOM wi9ll do you fine.

A complete kit is only like $100 or so + S&H.

Check the starter bolts b/c straight mean you have a 10.5" and staggered means you have an 11"er, but I'd bet a beer that you have the little one!

PS., and check w/ a magnet if the pilot bushing sticks b/c if it does, don't use it but rather go to NAPA and get a brass one instead for like $4.00??

Dam CHI-COM crap has iron powder in them instead of all brass like is the best here!

Zoom unit's are good but I would go with Jerome on this one , Stock replacement will do you just fine , get the flywheel resurfaced and call it good for another 100,000 miles.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the input.
I noticed that most 'kits' dont' include a "Pilot Bearing". Seems like something I'd want

A clutch is about the only thing I've never done on a car so I am a little leery because of the few stories I've heard. But, I intend to jump right in like I do everything else!

I'll see what they're stocking at the local autoparts places and probably get on this w/in the next 2 weeks.
