I have a 68 Camaro and the subframe is a bit beat up on the rails and on the bottom of the crossmember from jacking it up over the years. I am looking to replace it with a nice one if I can fine one that is rust free and dent free. I have been offered one from a 73 Nova. Can anyone tell me for sure if this is the same. I am looking past interchange and looking to whether it is the same or not. I am thinking brackets and such might be different. This is a Z/28 and I am looking to keep it as original as I can and dont want to just interchange. Can anyone help me?

Jim I'm thinking the 73 Nova subframe is different because of it being the first year of the "shock absorber" type bumper mounting with the big pistons the bumper bolts to. 68-72 Nova should be the same. If I'm wrong someone will be along shortly to correct me..

Pretty sure 74 was the first year for the big bumpers. Still, not sure a 73 will fit, as sometime in the early 70's the Nova changed location for the steering box and steering linkage, but not sure what year. Also, I know there are some subtle differences among 67, 68 and 69 Camaros. I know the 69 and 70 Nova subframe will fit the 69. Do a search on subframes. I know Mark C. has some photos of the subtle differences, and they have been posted here.

Hope this helps more than confuses.

For a complete "identical frame", I think you will be limited to the 68 Camaro. Even the 67's and 69's have subtle changes. (bump stops etc.) Why change it ? Being original and not perfect is probably worth more than a non-identical subframe.

Hope this helps more than confuses. Here is a pic of a 73 Nova. It was the first year of the the "bumper car" bumpers. The steering box location & linkage was rear steer (steering box behind the crossmember) from 68-74. The 75-79 style was when they changed to front steer. I agree with the others that the only subframe that will be exactly the same would be one from another 68 Camaro but 67-69 Camaro & Firebird, 68-72 Nova, 71-72 Ventura will fit. The Omega & Apollo body styles didn't come out until 73 and will have the big bumpers.
