Well, I am close to the point where I need to replace the dum-dum putty sealing the door and qtr bolts. Did some research and found this:

Ace Hardware GB Electrical conduit seal - $3.79 http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1292747&cp=&kw=conduit+seal&origkw=conduit+seal&sr=1

Went and picked a bar up (about 6" long, 2" wide, 1" thick), looks perfect in the package. I will report back on how well it works and compares to the original.

Next on my hunt is the butyl strip caulk for the door to paper seal :)

This is what I use. Picked it up at NAPA ,the counter help didn't know what I was talking about. So they took me to the stock room and there it was sitting on the shelf. He said that he had been selling auto parts for 20yrs and had no idea they carried it. I think it cost about 11 dollars for the box.

You can find that at any good Electrical supply house also

It's made by Gardner-Bender.
Product #DS-130 (1 lb - shown) or #DS-530 (a 5 lb pack).

It does not harden or skin over so be carefull painting it ;)

The 3m stuff is great and it will work for the door paper barriers also.

We have black "dum dum" here at work. It comes on a reel. 10mm think on a roll 10 meters long. We use it for resealing taillamps on the old MB's that you can't get the taillamp seals for.

Sold by Wurth part# 890-100-032 Don't know about the cost we have it as a shop supply for the techs.

I believe the 3M strip calk is what the factory used; it appears identical... You can get it in 'gray' or 'black' color....(and maybe more??) .. I've had the black and gray in my garage for many years.... It never hardens.... but it does collect dust/dirt if not left in the box or under cover...

Would this also be a good candidate for replacing the sealer in the trim tag rivit holes?

Not really ;)
First, it never dries - like the original putty did...
Next, it doesn't take paint well - like the original putty did...

Use regular 'bondo' type fillers - mix a small amount, allow to set-up untill it gets slightly stiff and then apply - looks like original (pink-ish) when stripped of paint and stays in the holes very well.

This stuff is excellent for sealing around firewall openings, sealing (small) body holes and around light, and other, housings and trim mounted into the body. Also seals the floor plugs.
Someone above mentioned using to fasten door inner-seals (paper) to the door - sounds good to me.
