I have a friend with a 78 camaro with a 68 396 in it,the engine sits way up high in the chassis, he says its from using the stock small block mounts is this ok to do?wont this change the driveshaft angle too much?plus he wants to use the dynomax coated headers in jegs part# 289-86110 does anybody have any experience with these as far as fit and what size are the tubes?Plus will using the smallblock mounts create a fit problem with the headers, any input would be greatly appreciated thanks....John

yes, my guess is your pinion angle is way off, if its as you describe. that can cause problems. don't know about the headers, but wrong motor mounts will more than likely make problems for you with regard header fittment.

We will helkp as much as possible here, real good group of people. There is another site that's good that specializes in the 70-81 Camaros only. I'd ask over there also. Although I've owned four second gen cars, all have been small blocks. Here's the link:

I am new to this board so graemlins/waving.gif hello everyone :D
As for your question, I have had several 2nd gen Camaros and made the switch from small block to big block. I have never changed motor mounts (actually didn't even know there was such a thing as differant motor mounts for BBC and SBC till maybe a year or 2 ago). I/we have never run into any fitment issues with anything and if the motor does actually sit a little higher in the chassis that is not a bad thing. It will actually help with weight transfer (if you are racing the car) but if it is a driver then it just will not handle as well but with a big block you are not going to handle well anyway....lol. I am making the SBC to BBC swap in my 78 Camaro right now as a matter of fact and I have the Moroso solid motor mounts on both the block and the frame. As far as pinion angle goes that can always be corrected with shims between the leafspring and the rearend housing.
