I bought one of those 110 GPH mechanical fuel pumps and had nothing but problems. At first the pump didn't pump any gas! I poured some gas into the fuel line to try and prime it. Then it worked for a while. I took it for a drive and after about a mile the engine started spitting and sputtering and finally died. I popped the hood and it looked like the pump was flooding the carb as it looked like there was a puddle of gas on the manifold. I finally got it started and got it home. I let it sit for a while and tried to start it again to see if I needed to adjust the float on my Q-Jet, but the pump wouldn't pump any gas to the carb!!! I pulled it off and put the stock fuel pump back on and it ran like a champ.....Just a slight bog a WOT, which is why I was changing to a higher volume pump!

Anyone have any problems with these pumps or this pump/QJet combination? Maybe I just got a bad pump?

Q-jets aren't real sensitive about fuel unless you are really pushing a lot of horsepower. Are you sure the sec. aren't just opening too quick or make sure the factory filter is not still in the carb. I have no clue what is happening with the Holley pump unless it picked up some junk in the check valve.

When I went to the track, the car pulled strong off the line through first, through second, but right about the time I'd shift to third the engine would bog.....sometimes just before shifting and sometimes just after shifting.

I have monkied with it on the street trying to recreate the problem....It's hard though because after winding out first and second I'm going faster than I should be on the street and I don't need a ticket or an accident troubleshooting my car.

I assumed this was the fuel pump not keeping up. I asked a few people and that's what they thought too.
