On March 16, 2009, Oshawa Assembly started to produce the first regular production Camaro since 2002.

Chevrolet dealer and NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick drove the first regular production Camaro -- his Black Camaro SS -- off the line to the applause of the Oshawa Assembly employees. If you recall, Rick purchased this Camaro for $350,000 at the recent Barrett-Jackson Auction, with all the proceeds from the sale going to the American Heart Association in their fight against heart disease and stroke.

As this event was taking place in Canada, Troy Clarke was addressing a group of journalists back in Detroit participating in the first Camaro media event. During his opening remarks, Troy announced the official EPA-certified fuel economy numbers for the all new Camaro.

EPA Certified Fuel Economy for 2010 Camaro
3.6L V6 (LS and LT models):
With Manual Transmission: 17 City / 29 Highway
With Automatic Transmission: 18 City / 29 Highway

6.2L V8 (SS models):
With Manual Transmission: 16 City / 24 Highway
With Automatic Transmission: 16 City / 25 Highway

These fuel economy figures are higher than our initial estimates, and put the Camaro well ahead of similar sport models. Consider the distinct style; the standard features and technology; the 304 horsepower V6; and the $22,995 starting MSRP; and there is no other sport model like this for less than $30,000.

So, with this info, when can I see, feel and touch a new Camaro at my local Chevy dealership? I mean one that's on the lot for sale, not one that was pre-ordered and spoken for. I NEED to buy a new car this spring, got 170k on my daily driver. Just looking for a basic V6 with auto trans. Will there be 5 or 6 to choose from at my local dealership in the next few weeks??

Our local dealer just contacted me and said he wants our Camaro Club to be onsite with cars on 2 May for the Camaro release.

So, at least here in Virginia, our dealers will have them on 2 May...

GM, GM, GM!!!!!!! Don't make me go to a Mustang!!! I've got it narrowed to between the two. I am buying a car by June. I can get a reasonably equipped V6 auto Mustang for about 20-21K I'd rather wait for the Camaro, (more hp etc. but it will be couple of grand more) I've already been waiting too long for the Camaro....Feb. 2009 was what I was hearing last fall. Now May???? And you won't even give me a choice of colors to choose from??? I hate to be negative...I've heard all the GM bashing, but come on....are you gonna release this bleeping car or not????? I'm not gonna BEG you to sell me a car............

The lates 60s produced the now Collectable 'Muscle Car' be it a Chevy, Dodge what ever, it was not just power but something about the design...sort of 'timeless'
Since then design has not hit that unique forumla, except maybe the viper.
Once again dodge ford, GM , 40 yrs on have/are producing a new era of 'muscle car'
The late 30s /40 also produced a 'timeless ' design and took 40 yrs before the late 60s...

I dont know if you guys get "top Gear" in the states..basically top end euro stuff, and have for yrs been very critical, as I have benn of American hi performace stuff...but these new muscle cars, they are VERY impressed.

It is just a shame this new era rolls in at a time of fiscal crap...the same sort of crap that killed the 60s generation.... on the other hand it is this crap that could add to the long term collectabilty of the new generation of classics.

Top Gear is the best show on the tube!! I love it, I have not seen anything with the new Stang or yet. The show they did with the Challenger, CTSV and Z06 was great! I just watched one wher they used a Vett and it chasing a Ford Fiesta (I think they are a Focus here in the states) in mall. It was agreat segment, the Daytona trip a few shows back was good also.

A Good read http://www.topgear.com/us/features/more/lp640-vs-zr1/

I know the 60's took a long time, but I don't think it was that long...
