We have owned a 69 RS for 28 years. We put a 383 stroker in it with a 700R4 trans. It looks like a real Camaro should look. Everytime along the way I have test driven a newer Camaro, I go right back to the 69 as being the best car to own. Imagine what you could do sinking $30k into the Camaro you already own! Which will it be on the next test drive with the new 2SS?

Steve do you daily drive your '69? If I get a new 2010 Camaro it will sit in the driveway like my current driver and would be a replacement for one of the family drivers. I doubt you would find much argument that the new one should not be a replacement for the old one, not here on a 1st gen site anyway.
What's cool is if you look at the comparison Chevy makes between both 6cyl and 8 cyl Camaros it's right up there with some really nice company making more power, getting better fuel economy and handling better for thousands less than some respected competition...

DjD, You post made me think some more about new vs old. This is more of a talking out loud ramble.
Our 69RS was my daily driver from 1981 to 1999 putting about 200,000 miles on top of the 100,000 thousand or so that it had when we first bought it. It is still reliable enough to drive daily, when needed. But it is getting worn again, needs a new back window sill and vinyl top, the 383 is OK for now, but a new ZZ4 or rebuild the original 307 would be on the horizon. I know if I put $20k+ into the RS now for roof, interior, and motor, it would thereafter be in the garage vs the car cover outside. If I put $30k plus into a new SS, I think I would also have a hard time using it as a daily driver. There was a post I read about someone driving a new 5th Gen Camaro home in a snowstorm. That's like running fingers across a chalk board to me. Salt on a brand new pristine SS? That is not a good thing.
So choices, 1) OK 1st Gen driver for cheap; 2) updated 1st Gen for event cruising kept in the garage for $20k+; or 3) trade the old for a new 5th Gen SS plus cash kept for say once a week use. Actually these days, $30K or so for a pristine 6spd 400hp SS is quite a bargain compared to restoration cost to achieve the same thing with a 1st Gen.
