View Full Version : firewall letters
trman Mar 19th, 09, 11:01 AM after soda blasting my 67,3 sets of letters became visible on the passenger side of the firewall... "RAG"' "A/C" and "MS"...marina blue car with black vinyl top= RAG , A/C = air conditioning, "MS" is what? These letters were written with some sort of wide tip "grease pencil" that somehow was etched in/ would not come off...some have suggested a code "MS" might be for a L 48 SS 350...any body know? thanks,T
Dayton68Z28 Mar 19th, 09, 12:27 PM I would guess "manual steering"??
Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
trman Mar 19th, 09, 02:05 PM sorry, I was trying to be brief, so I did not include some info... My marina blue RS car was owned by an employee at LOS plant who sold it to a friend of mine ...I have owned it since '95...car was original more or less...trim tag lost at paint shop...1 piece of black vinyl and 2 rows of bondo'd holes where v.top trim pieces were, told the tale on "RAG","A/C" is obvious(factory air installed),but as for ''MS"? The car has a tilt wheel, power steering, an automatic transmission, console, seat belts, tinted windows...all options I believe. The only thing changed that I know of was the engine...the kid I bought it from claimed it was a factory installed Corvette 327/a check of block, crank, and head #'s proved that true...he said if you worked at the plant you could get that done( I had also been told that MS could be something about a L48 SS)I dont care that much sometimes, but then I think an RS/SS would be VERY cool to have found...
Dayton68Z28 Mar 19th, 09, 03:47 PM Do you have a pic of the firewall?
Mine was a LOS AC car also.
trman Mar 19th, 09, 03:53 PM no pics / good memory though...your A/C same as mine ...location,script,color...
Kurt S Mar 19th, 09, 10:02 PM These were written with paint markers. That then prevented the wash and phosphate steps from etching that part of the firewall, leaving the marks you see.
Remember, almost all firewall graffiti was covered with the firewall black-out (by design).
Kyvox Mar 20th, 09, 03:32 AM "RAG" - Since the trim tag is missing, could the car have been Rally Green, originally? Quite a few cars have the color written on the cowl.
All of the cowl graffiti was written on the Fisher Body side of the factory, so, I doubt that it had anything to do with mechanical parts that were installed on the Chevrolet end.
trman Mar 20th, 09, 09:15 AM car was marina blue ...original paint still in all the nooks and crannys...I also remember that code(F) on the tag before it got lost...a paint & body guy told me the "RAG" was telling the paint shop not to spray the roof so the vinyl top would glue down better
Unreal Mar 20th, 09, 12:12 PM Maybe the MS was telling the paint guy he Missed a Spot. :)
trman Mar 20th, 09, 02:42 PM maybe he did ...I did'nt...pic of car on my profile...
