Can someone help me with a dimension for the front and rear deluxe bumper guard mounting? My car didn't come with bumper guards and I bought a set of originals and had them rechromed. A picture of each would be greatly appreciated also. Thanks for any help.

I'm still having problems with my front deluxe bumper guards. The dimension shows 10" from center of valance but I see pics of the guards closer to the license plate also. The guards will not fit the bumper at the 10" mark. Looks like it could be modified (ground) to fit but should this be done? I bought these off ebay as original 68's and they looks exactly like the ones in pics I see. They seem to fit better next to the license plate but still not close enough. Thanks for any help

Nice pix Alan, luv the bronze sunset

Craig, sorry I can't offer any help but I'm interested in your findings... as I would like to add the guards someday. I don't think grinding on them now, after they've been plated is a good idea....plating may eventually peel off??

Can you post a pic? Maybe they're for a '69?....sometimes ebay sellers no not what they speak...

Hard to tell from the photos..did you try switching them left and right?

yep. They seem to fit better if I move them closer toward where the license plate goes, but when if fits good there is not enough room for the plate.

Looks like ya need to roll them down to fit the curvature of the bumper...notice the lower mtg tabs aren't makin contact with the valance.

This is all new to me, but apparently they were'nt designed to fit flush on the top, back edge of the bumper.

Also, looks like the lower mtg tabs are bent differently ? Guess one or both needs some tweakin....

Just my thoughts.

I was wondering, I used aftermarket side bumper brackets. I wonder if this could have my bumper too far forward (out from the car) and maybe the pitch is off. I know there is alot of adjustment on the brackets that mount to the subframe but using the side brackets there's not much room for play. Any ideas? Thanks

Is it an original GM, or an aftermarket bumper?

It's an original that's been rechromed. All of the bumper brackets are aftermarket though.

I just ran out and checked mine; they are 16 1/2" apart (on center) and they look great. I put new ones on mine recently and I had the same problem/confusion. When i mounted the clip inside the top of the guard and played around with them a little, I was able to get the clip flush, the bottom mount flush, but the guard does not fit snug to the bumper, nor do I think it is supposed to. the guard acually sits about a 1/4" inch off the bumper as it wraps around the front of the bumper. I need to take a bunch of pics of mine - if you can hold-off I can take a few pics tomorrow or Saturday.

Have you tried it on the back bumper? Could it be the rear set? DENNIS

they are the front bumpers. Anyone got a closeup of the spacing between the bumper and the valance. It would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

This thread is great! I will be referencing this much later in my build, but thanks!

Craig, inside the center of the bumper, there's a little bracket that holds a small rectangular rubber bumper....know what I'm talkin about ? On mine the rubber just barely kisses the valance...still a bit of wiggle room to it.

I just bought a set off of ebay and the fit EXACTLY the same way! There were supposed to be original, but I am not too sure after seeing your pics. My originials were pretty hammered, but they fit flush on the bumper, there is no gap. It might be that the bumper needs to be adjusted on the brackets, that would be worth trying - otherwise I am going to grind the so they fit.
