Just finished my last coat of primer on the body, all of the front end is already primed and jamed. Once Im done wet sanding the body it will bw time to jam it and then put the skins on, then to paint:hurray:

looking good. little hint tho before you paint put on plastic on bottom of car to underneath seam so you dont paint underneath the car from over spray. you can back tape it to the seam.

Thanks

Im to the point now that all I want to do is work on the car, I spent alot of time ordering new parts and door clips, radio, amp, ect, ect, ect the room is full of new parts and its all waiting to be put on and it all hinges on that certain point, PAINT. Once the paint is on your home free, I wonder if I'll get post partom depression when its all done :D

LOL!! I just noticed my typo. EXCITING, not exiting!!! Maybe I thought I was leaving the building because I'm getting close to paint?

I agree, all I want to do is work on my car right now too. It's been slow at work, so that's about all I think about. I think once you get it painted, you'll have a whole new ambition to work on it.

That looks like a nice urethane primer on there. Are you going to seal it, or just put a thinned down coat of primer on it for the last step?

I've talked to a couple of local guys who don't like the sealer, so they just use the primer as their last step as long as they don't burn through anywhere. Oh, and what color are you painting it?

Its a Sherwin Williams product, I am also using their paint Genesis its $400.00 a gallon. As luck would have it they had a gallon of Viper Red that someone ordered and never picked up, so they sold it to me for $100.00. I was wanting a red but wasn't sure what shade, when they brought that out I decided I would buy it. when I shot my jambs on my doors and the underneith side of my hood I used the primer as the last coat.

Hey guys as you can see I just put what I thought to be my last coat of primer on. I sanded through the primer in spots, some to bare metal on my new skins. My question is, I have some gray self etching primer in an aerosol can and was wondering if I can use that as a means to touch up those spots. I ran out of the other primer and really didnt want to go buy more unless I need too. whats your thoughts.

I ran into the same problem on one of the cars that the fellas and I did. We touched up the area with self-etching primer from an aerosol can, but when we painted over it, you could see a minor difference in color. In hindsight, perhaps I should have shot the area with the same kind of primer, or perhaps I should have put an additional color coat on the car to cover it up. Not sure if that would have helped. Just my $0.02 worth of experience.

the earosol primer and the original primer is the same color, do you still think it would cause a color difference

Maybe not -- I remember the primer that I used out of the can was just a little bit darker. My guess at the time was that it wouldn't matter as the color would cover it all, but in this case I was wrong

Thanks for the input maybe I should see if I can get a quart of the same primer just to be on the safe side. Besides I've spent this much $ whats a little more just to be safe.

I will repeat what you said in your last post. Why even take a chance at this point? You KNOW the original stuff you used will be fine, but you don't KNOW the rattle can stuff will not cause any issues.

Paint looks great. $400 a gallon!! YIKES!! Is that a BC/CC or single stage?

Fear not, I went to the paint store today and bought more primer, I feel a whole lot safer doing it this way. Besides the guys at Sherwin Williams treat me good and gave me a price break.

How soon after painting were those pics taken? Do you have a large exhaust fan?

Sorry about the double post wasent sure if I hit the post button and didnt think to look on page two. The paint is bc/cc and the pictures were taken about 15 min after I was done shooting. I always vacuum my garage floor before I spray that way I can open the garage door and the backdoor a tad to let it air out. I wont be doing that on the final color. I will be in my friends paint booth, in a couple weeks I hope.

I have an update to my previous post, all my body work and wet sanding is done at last. Painted my jambs and cowl area this morning, I am very happy with the outcome and hopefully I can start putting the skins back on this week end. I can actually see an end in sight. I hope to take it to the paint booth first part of next month.

Thanks Doug, as you saw the floor pan has a little rust on it from the leaking heater core. Its mostly surface rust, I want to do some thing to repair that area. What do you suggest.
