Just responded to your identical post in the Welcome Wagon section. That dosn't appear to be a good number.

casting numbers are the numbers made when the block was cast, there raised numbers unlike stamped numbers. easy to get confused when telling someone over the internet, now the difference between the two i dont know

Big block or small block? The only one I could find that was close was a big block number; a lot of times, the 3's and 8's are easy to misinterpret as the other on casting numbers.

Umm... I posted the info for the 3916323 casting in post #5 above. It is a 68 396 block, could be 2 or 4 bolt main. Does it still have any stampings on pad in front of passenger side head? How many threaded/tapped holes in the area above the oil filter?

It's not the number of holes, but the SIZE of the holes that counts.

2 bolt mains:

You have a 396/325 2 bolt main engine assembled on August 10th, 1967 at the Tonawanda, NY engine plant, and installed in a 1968 Chevelle assembled at the Atlanta, GA assembly plant.

CHEVYSS2936, please stick with your original thread. It's too hard to keep track of them if you keep posting new ones.

Your original question was answered HERE (http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=154017&page=2) (Look at the size of the holes), and I've decoded your other question there as well.
