The houndstooth was part of the RPO Z87 Custom Interior; for 68, coupes did not get rear arm rests, so the seat bottm should be the same width as the standard interior.

As far as whether you can recover by yourself or need a pro to do it, that depends. There's a lot of "how to" tips here, like this thread:

I just went through this same dilemma. My 68 came with the houndstooth interior. I decided to go with the all vinyl black deluxe. I had the interior redone once before & IMO the cloth material just did not hold up as well as the Vinyl. So I ordered new upholstery & seat foam from Classic industries. I also wanted to save a few bucks & try to recover the seats myself. I went to a local upholstery shop and bought a good pair of hog ring pliers and a pound of hog rings. I had the passenger seal all apart and started on that first. I set up a table in the garage & laid out the parts, took out the foam & the seatcover. I determined at this point I had no idea what the heck I was doing! So rather than screwing up my new covers & foam I decided to take it to a shop. A local company here in Vegas gave me a price of $350.00 to do the work. Money well spent IMO. I'll get my seats back early next week and have none of the aggravation of ripping a good seat cover.

Good luck with your project.
